Another hot blustery day under a Red Flag Alert. Tomorrow also.

Last few days the fires have mostly happened in Oklahoma. We get the smoke.

Our new neighbor to west had a concrete patio poured yesterday. They are putting in a fortune of upgrades to that property for which they paid top dollar. It's an eyesore no more.

Sitting out on the patio in the windy weather before it gets too hot. Going up to 94F this afternoon. Red Flag is up and more fires expected. No chance of serious rain in sight. Very happy that our city has a waste water recovery plant.

This went right thru our neighborhood and destroyed a house just across the street. :?

Terrible Tuesday. I was 11 years old at the time, and our neighborhood was in the path until it changed directions a few miles away and headed more in the direction of WF. My brother, sister, and our cocker spaniel puppy spent the evening in the bathtub under a mattress. From that point on, whenever our cocker spaniel heard thunder he would go sit in the bathtub.

In about an hour we will once again be under Red Flag conditions. Same tomorrow. So far this week the fires have mostly stayed north in Oklahoma. The 20% chance of light rain for tomorrow night is no longer in the forecast.

Extreme drought conditions are almost here.

Our younger daugther is visiting from North Dallas. We are out on the patio. She is reporting some amaryllis plants to take back with her.

Weather her is perfect, low 70s, clear skies and a light breeze.

Across the alley I hear children playing in a backyard that usually doesn't. Probably Easter visitors.

Wichita Falls ISD faces increased budget deficit

https://www.newschannel6now.com/2022/04 ... ntent=kauz
More information about the Wichita Falls ISD’s budget came to light in Tuesday’s school board meeting.

The district is looking at another major drop in funds. The Texas Education Agency is in its annual process of taking back money from the school district, which has been “overpaid” by the TEA for the last three years due to overestimating student enrollment.

WFISD’s new financial consultant said if nothing changes, they’ll be preparing for a deficit of up to $9 million for the next two years.

The exact numbers won’t be known until this summer’s audit, and News Channel 6 will make sure to keep you updated in the meantime.
Not just a problem here. During Covid online schooling many students just disappeared due to home schooling or whatever.

This year's property tax appraisals just came out and the county is in shock.

Hello everyone, I’m Markeshia Jackson, a reporter with KFDX and we’ve been reading your posts and concerns regarding these appraisals and will be working on a story today surrounding this. We’d love to hear from who this impacts most: you all. If anyone is interested in doing an interview with us to voice their concerns just reply to this post and I’ll message you. Thanks!
Our appraisal (for our half ownership of the house) went from $104K to $139K. It would have gone higher but we over 65s get a discount.

Housing prices have been skyrocketing all across Texas this year. We can hardly believe what our new neighbors to the west paid for their house.

Panic is not warranted just yet because when valuations rise, tax rates usually fall.

Off Topic
I think I have been quiet on the issue, but I have always wondered how the US got fixated on property taxes and gives the federal government the exclusive bite from income. Here in my corner of the world all levels of government, from federal to state to municipality get a slice of the income tax. No property tax per se, but a very low assets tax that includes anything valuable from stock, bullion, to real estate with a large free allowance. Eg no need for a property owner to roll over tax hikes to tenants.
