The Ridge and Valley section of the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia (between the Blue Ridge and the Allegheny ranges) has no culture, few restaurants, and very
little live music (but those things are only a few hours away). But it’s so, so beautiful, and the cost of living in this part of Virginia isn’t bad.
One advantage of returning to Virginia is that I am still licensed to practice in the Commonwealth and can hang a shingle for a part-time tax practice. I have given Williamsburg and Charlottesville some consideration.

And my youngest brother lives in Eugene and has been lobbying me to move to Oregon. I'll check it out!

I'm wondering if that just might be an attempt at humor. Hard to tell if it's in fun anymore given all the stupidity out there, but it just might be.

Yes, however if you live in hurricane country on a barrier island where the highest elevation is 7 feet you really need to plan some way to evacuate.

Unfortunately, Ida slowed down to 10mph and winds are still 130mph, it isn't immediately weakening because it landed on marshland that allows the energy to continue. The NHC is saying N-NW, that may help New Orleans proper, but it's looking more north than NW. As of 5pm, the strongest winds are just starting to hit New Orleans. This will continue for the new few hours, this is nowhere near the end, expect it through midday Monday for recovery to begin.
