Seeking leniency in case, William Reid writes letter to judge to say he "skipped breakfast..and started drinking because I was in a celebratory mood" on Jan 6

Reid also says it was "drunken frustration when I threw a remote at a TV screen & tipped over a water cooler" at Capitol

But if a black teenager steals a $20 backpack, and dies in jail waiting for trial because he can't post bail, no worries.

New: The Justice Department says a Jan. 6 rioter posted a message on the Facebook page of an unnamed Republican after the Capitol attack.

"We All know He won in a landslide and the DC swamp rigged the Election. The truth will come out for all to see 😀😀😀"

Who among us has not skipped the scrambled eggs, gone instead for an AM whiskey double, and then committed a little sedition and obstruction of Congress.

Who among us, I say.

Speaking of skipping things… probably not a good idea to skip a status conference in Royce Lamberth’s courtroom. Somebody got an order to show cause out of it.

It would be easier if months were a decimal fraction of a year…

That's it, I vote we convert to the Metric Calendar Year. July and September are hereby cancelled.

Metric Time - whatever its merits may be - will forever be associated (for me) in history with la Terreur. And given our current political climate, that’s not a direction I want my brain to go.

The (French) Republican Calendar still had 12 months, but only 3 10 day weeks with 6 "Bonus Days" at the end of the year. I like to imagine the Bonus Days as a Hedonistic festival normally associated with the likes of Louis XIV, Keith Richards, Hunter S, Thompson or Pupperoni crazed flying dachshunds.

And I'm sure it would have been, if only they could take a break from beheading everyone and chill out, but they persisted and The first Republic failed, taking its calendar with it.

I'm blaming the covid shut down, chemo brain and my husband's retirement.

Don't tell anyone, but I originally put 6 months and had to edit it.

Yeah, except we're keeping July and September, those are nice.

We'll get rid of January and February, I hate the cold. :batting:

Yes, but it does have a red thumbprint. Can't tell if it is blood or red ink. I thought it was supposed to be blood.

Isn't a 3 cent stamp also required?

Seriously, IANAL, but, can a defendant unilaterally fire his/her attorney, even a public defender? I thought that one had to request the judge's permission to do so.

I was also under the impression that a defendant must request permission to defend him/herself. While it is usually granted, isn't there a hearing (Faretta?) in which the judge makes sure that the defendant is capable of their own defense?
