The idea of stock grants as pay to me is rather insane, but hey no-one asked me.

Why?

It ties some of your compensation to the success of the company, and since options and RSUs typically vest over time they tend to keep folks around longer. It's standard practice in many, many high tech companies.

Our son made $1.2 million before taxes from his stock options last year when his startup was bought out. So he is in favor of them. None of mine ever panned out. :crying:

His first financial goal, he told us, was NOT to spend $200k on a new Porsche.

If you aren't giving equity as part of pay, you cannot attract the top people. I'd guess this is pretty common in tech firms and startups.

I don't believe this is common practice in Europe. If that would be, the empoyee would have a prorata allowance when his job gets ended before the end of year. Apart that mass job terminations have to go thru government proscribed procedures on the Old Continent.

A very interesting thread:
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
@padresj
Now that block bot has had time to do its thing, here's a dispassionate look at the Twitter deal.

The purchase price was north of $44b. That amount was raised w/a combination of $12.5b in financing, $21b in equity, & the remainder from a loan secured against his Tesla stock.

This caught my eye: :snippity:
ad sales account for about 92% of Twitter's revenue.

Those ad sales only went up once Twitter started aggressively going after troll and bot accounts.

No brand wants its ads posted in a stream of people writing the worst-possible thing they can think of to write.

Yeah, y'know what? Good.

Because that's so unhinged it really says something about Elon Musk that people need to know. So, good job. Good tweet. Thanks.

Sorry, I'm in a mood. I couldn't do my class today. My arms hurt. :(

Foggy needs to claim copytight for Under The Bridge sections of a platform
Twitter could split into strands allowing users to stage rows, Elon Musk says
The billionaire owner suggests the platform could have different video game-style modes, including a ‘player versus player’

Elon Musk has indicated that Twitter could be split into different strands where users give their posts content ratings and stage online rows in a specially created space on the platform.

The world’s richest man moved to assuage concerns about a rise in harmful content under his ownership on Friday by announcing the creation of a content moderation council.

Musk bought Twitter for $44bn last week, giving him control of an influential social media business with more than 230 million users.

However, Musk then said on Twitter that a “better idea” than the council might be to separate the platform into different strands. He also backed a user’s suggestion that the service splits into different video game-style modes, including a “player versus player” version where verified accounts can hold Twitter spats.

A Twitter user tweeted Musk on Friday that the Oversight Board established by the owner of Facebook and Instagram was a “losing game” because it did not satisfy people on the right or left of the political spectrum. In reply, Musk wrote that a “better idea” might be to select a version of Twitter in the style of choosing a film based on its content rating.

He wrote: “Being able to select which version of Twitter you want is probably better, much as it would be for a movie maturity rating.”

Musk added that that rating of a user’s tweet could be self-selected and then “modified by user feedback”.

Dear Elon, do you still pay the qualified software engineers or did they already leave? Or did you fire them among the 75%?

Some people are calling this a threat against companies choosing to pull their advertising from Twitter from a sitting U.S. Senator. In other news, I’ve spent a chunk of my morning tweeting at companies whose ads I’m seeing directly before or after tweets prominently featuring the n-word, asking them how they feel regarding their ad placement.

Seriously?

Musk is emotionally retarded.
