We have scheduled our flu vaccines for Thursday.

Now just to wait to see if a 4th Pfizer shot will be needed. ;)

The mr got his booster today when he went to pick up meds at Costco. Not home yet, so no word on side effects.

I received my Pfizer booster Friday morning. I have some soreness near the injection site, and maybe some general achiness. However, it's hard to tell whether the general achiness is from the booster or just being old.

A fourth shot, V?

I don't mind injections, but I haven't heard of that. :confuzzled:

Just speculating. You need a flu shot every year so why not a Covid shot?

Oh, I get it, yeah. I suspect it's going to be with us for many, many years.

Yesterday was my two weeks post-booster, so I should be at peak immunity now. Also, I got my flu shot yesterday. I have an egg allergy, so I had to go to a special clinic put on by my county health department to get FluBlok, which is safe for those with egg allergies (I get it from both Mom and my bio-father, so we take no chances, and I remember when Mom ended up in the ER from the flushot, oh 20-some years ago)

Last flu shot I got in 1985, I was stationed in the ol' FRG. Got the shot at the aid station, went to the motorpool and got stung by a bee. Woke up 3 days later. Skipped flu shots ever since.

Got my flu shot day. I never had one till I turned 65 and things* started going wrong. My docs said "do it" and since my current protocol is to have good docs that I trust and to do what they say, I now get one every year.

I spent 12 years working for a small Electrical Services firm (I and one other provided engineering, some support staff, and the rest were electricians). When I hired on at my current job, I joined a utility of nearly 700 employees. Way more exposure. My first two winters, I caught the flu (actual influenza) which laid me up for a week each time. That was not fun. It took me a few more years, but I finally tracked down a supplier of FluBlok and I'm not missing a shot ever again.

May you stay flu free as long as you need.

I've had so many bad effects from vaccines & common prescriptions, the medical plan was for me to avoid them, if possible. But I got the covid vaccine 2x, with epipen in hand & safety protocols in place. The booster is coming up tomorrow or the following Friday b/c it knocks me out - have to get it on a Friday because I need a few days to recover. And safety checks have to be in place.

Hubby got his booster more than a week ago, and he had no real side effects other than a slightly sore arm. He got the flu shot at the same time. I'm still waiting. I had the Moderna, final one last March 10, so I'm eligible. Moderna is ready at half dose for me, but I'm also hearing that mixing and matching is very effective between Moderna and Pfizer. They are deciding on that recommendation now, I think, but Dr. Gupta was on MSNBC last night saying he thought that was definitely the way to go. :waiting:

Just got back from my Pfizer booster; wife got her Moderna yesterday and is a bit below the weather this morning. Better than the alternative.

Just out of curiosity for those who have gotten the booster. Did your doctor recommend it, or did you have antibody testing to get your level before the booster, or are you getting it just because it's available?

Specialist told me to get it pronto, which I did before it was even approved. Now the hospital where I got it is sending people elsewhere for it.

I'm immune compromised, so at the direction of my medical team and the guidelines I got the booster as soon as I was able to. I should probably get antibody testing just for peace of mind, there is a good chance my body can't make any, but I would feel a LOT better if I knew it was.

Just took the 9yo for another Covid test this morning, he woke up with a sore throat and minor fever. Probably nothing, but he freaks out at anything Covid related. Can't wait for the vaccine for his age group.

Dr. Vicklund is on multiple immunosuppressants, so we were recommended to both get it if possible (I have a medical condition that also puts me at risk, but it's her condition that is the driving force).

Thanks for the responses. They have tested my antibody levels and all of my docs advise against the booster as long as I'm above 250. So far, so good, just surprised they don't give it even though I'm on chemo. Perhaps that will change at some point.

I believe you started chemo after (well after) you were vaccinated. The chemo is more likely to prevent you from developing new antibodies, rather than destroying existing antibodies (though it also can do that). So as long as they're monitoring, this is a reasonable course. The big hesitation I have is that since there is no Correlate of Protection yet, the number chosen is arbitrary.

Interesting that in both groups the 30-39 group is highest.
