I didn’t know it had a name, but I have used it, and I knew exactly how it looked. Right after Trump won, I was doing physical therapy for hand surgery, and some idiot decided he was going to praise Trump and demonize Hillary to the entire room of patients. I told him there should be no political talk here because we all have different opinions. He decided he was gonna stare me down to intimidate me. He didn’t know what bitch he was messing with. And, yes, he turned away first.

Re pay for restaurant workers - Thursday night was my Seattle sister's last day in the Cities, so there were five of us who went out to eat. We first tried Red Lobster. Nope. A 40-minute wait because they didn't have sufficient staff. So we went to the nearby Applebee's. Very busy, but seated right away. Good service.

I can't imagine managing a restaurant at this time. If you don't have enough wait staff, you end up turning away diners. Those diners will think twice before they come back, which means you're losing customers and are less able to afford additional staff and you spiral downward.

Shizzle, this not 100% accurate. $2.13 is the federal minimum for tipped employees. But it depends on the state. Your state of AZ is higher. Base for tipped service employees is $9.80.

However, having been a service worker in my younger self years, we worked friggin' hard for those tips and thus I always tip proper in my older years.

I live in Indiana where we pay the federally mandated minimum of $2.13 because we want our poor people to stay that way. (Technically, the employer has to make up the difference if your tips don't get you to $7.50/hr but I've heard stories about that not happening.)

Two of my daughters waited tables at Steak 'n Shake when they were younger (and SnS was still a decent place). Those places moved a lot of customers through in a shift but tips per table were appallingly low and the stores were largely poorly managed. They were both glad to leave.

I apologize for mis-identifying your state. Forgive please.

Okay,

Minimum Wage Rate Maximum Tip Credit Tipped Minimum Wage (Total)
Indiana $2.13 $5.12 $7.25

Base is stuck at $2.13. Nobody can survive on that unless they are in a higher end restaurant where they get tips to offset.

And Steak and Shake used to be good but the after bar close hours crowd a bit of mayhem and low or no tips..

Take the look, put on a pair of glasses so you are looking over the top of them, and you have the teacher look.

Years ago, when I was still teaching, two ladies at the laundromat were discussing something and one was trying to describe the teacher look. I turned around with look and she quickly proclaimed, "that's it."
