Ben-Prime: Why you gotta be planetist and cut out the *Non*-Earthlings, Foggy? Dividing us by artificial constructs such as orbits and parallaxes? So disappointing. :|
Am I an orbit or a parallax?? I can't remember!!! :crying: :confuzzled:

Early voting started today in Texas. Light rain (and predicted to get worse) here in Dallas; I don’t know how that will affect first-day turnout.

My ballot is in the box.

Edit for weather: What a nasty damp day. No storms or hard rain, but persistent light to moderate rain all day, and temps dropping to what some parts of the country think of as “seasonal.”

If I had not voted this morning, before the rain started in earnest, I would have put it off to Tuesday. So if Dallas area turnout is a bit shy of expectations for Day One, weather will be a contributing factor.

Just dropped ours off at the drop box. DeSantis is giving our area extra early voting days because we are red. Orlando, which suffered horrible flooding from Ian but is primarily blue, no extra voting days for them.

We haven't filled ours out yet, then we need to decide whether to mail or drop box them (being unable to drive complicates things)

I want to move to Arizona so I can take an umbrella and hide from the poll watchers when I take my ballot several times a day to every drop box in the county before finally picking one to drop it in, unseen by the Freedumb Poll Watchers.

I'd even get a car camo cover from the part of the motorcar company that has those things, and show up every day at the polls driving one of these.

Not sure how predictive this will be in some states like AZ and GA because polling suggests there may be some ticket splitting.

Ohio has seen a jump of nearly 75% in early in-person voting compared to the same point in 2018.

I have way more knowledge about politics and economics and current events than some stinkin' plumber or bar waitress who don't pay no attention to polly ticks at all. People like that just vote against the incumbent, even if they are not at fault. Or they vote for whoever they like the most. So my vote should count more, or I should be able to vote five times or sumpin'. How come a moron's vote counts the same as mine?

A few examples.

Look at Patty Murray in Washington. Homelessness and crime are real problems in Seattle. Guess how much authority Patty has to do something about crime in Seattle. Or homelessness.

Ted Budd is a freakin' radical election denying Trumper. But he has a nice smile, and besides, Cheri Beasley, she's a black lady! All the anti-Beasley commercials feature black criminals being ... scary. Very scary. Nobody likes scary black criminals, now do they?

So ol' Ted doesn't have to say the quiet part out loud. He has a nice smile.

I just dropped off my ballot and my daughter's ballot at the Clark County Election Division which is about 6 miles from my house. I did the same for our primary ballots in June. It's a very large warehouse. There were about 6 police cars positioned around the building and I saw two officers in front just watching things. Plus several of those portable cameras on tall poles with the red and blue flashing lights are observing the outside of the building. Lots of cars in the parking lot and several people wearing shirts with the election logo coming and going so I assume they were paid poll workers or volunteers. I stopped right in front of the door to the drop off box and a nice lady in an election shirt came up to my window offered to take the ballots in. She asked if we had signed the envelopes, I showed her we did and handed them over. She said I could watch her take them in. I said I trusted her and thanked her for her service although I did watch her go inside as I was in no hurry. There were other people walking their ballots in as well. But I did not see anyone that looked like an open carrying self-appointed poll watcher troublemaker.

I don't think that this information is predictive in any way. The demographics of early vs. in-person voting are entirely different and there is no way to tell how it will split in this election. Too. also, I don't think that polling can make any useful predictions about the impact of ticket splitting (or anything else) given the different and unknowable biases due to sampling by land-line, cell phone, and online. Polling models depend on the assumption of random sampling and estimates of the demographic makeup of the electorate. We know that no one is getting good random samples anymore and there are far too many unprecedented dynamics in play to have any confidence in what the demographic makeup of the electorate will be -- especially given the roadblocks to voting that are being tried out in this election (as well as attempts to ameliorate said roadblocks).

Yes, this is good data, but very little useful information can be derived from it (at least until after the election) and I would be very dubious about acting on any intelligence developed from that information. The next two weeks are going to be a wild ride and we aren't going to know the outcome until the votes are actually counted.

At least that's my opinion.

For many years, I have been seeing all kinds of covered up cars traveling through Las Vegas, usually in groups. I've even seen a few covered with what looked like black trash bags. Last July I saw three white cars with manufacturer plates using the charging stations in a shopping center. I have no idea what brand they were. Several years ago a group of striped ones were loading up supplies outside a grocery store and I talked to one of the engineers who had a German accent. He told me they were Mercedes. And you probably know about Brenda, the car spy, who would go to Death Valley and takes pictures of the prototypes. Her story for interested readers:

Maybe their presence was to make sure it stays that way? As long as they aren't intimidating, I'd rather have LE present than those wackjobs.

Ya, I would suggest a possible reason the police was there is because those armed yahoos had been hanging around previously, and they slithered off when the cops took up residence.

That's my thought. There's been a lot of threats to our election employees since 2020 and LE is doing what's necessary to protect everyone. Not to mention, Clark County sheriff Lombardo is the R candidate for governor. It would certainly be bad publicity for him if the wackos were running amuck, even if some of them are his supporters. I voted for him for his current position but I don't like him (or any R) for gov.

Tina Forte is potty mouthed trash. Those two things independently, that is. We’ll see when they count the votes. But Forte would be arguably worse than mtg. I don’t believe he represents her constituency.

We dropped ours in the mail. Easier, and no need to tempt fate with the crazies at the drop boxes.

'Putin's chef' and Wagner group mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin admits meddling in US elections

Kremlin-connected entrepreneur Yevgeny Prigozhin has admitted that he has interfered in US elections and would continue to do so, confirming for the first time the accusations he has rejected for years.

Key points:
Yevgeny Prigozhin boasts about his meddling in the US elections on social media
The White House press secretary says his comments "do not tell us anything new"
Mr Prigozhin has been sanctioned by the United States, the UK and the European Union

"Gentlemen, we have interfered, are interfering and will interfere. Carefully, precisely, surgically and in our own way, as we know how to do," Mr Prigozhin boasted in remarks posted on social media.

I don't doubt there has been interference, but are these comments more propaganda fuck with-your-head than a confession?

I do. I've never had any doubts that the Dems will do well this time, and I haven't seen much reasons they wont. Perhaps because I'm removed from the media environment you have.

Plus, a little faith works wonders.
