We had a Sony reel-to-reel VTR in middle school in 1971, IIRC it looked similar to some of those Sony units but was more industrial (because middle-schoolers)

Anyone besides me ever watch The Secret Life Of Machines 30 years ago?

cool find GG.. I'll have to watch more of that..

Continuing the diversion, I present VERA:
(well I would, except "board attachemnt quota exceeded")
https://www.bbc.com/historyofthebbc/ann ... o-recorder

20-inch reels of 1/2-in steel tape, running at 200 inches per second. It is said the operators wore one leather glove in case the tape broke and they needed to stop the reels by hand.

It was obsolete before it first ran; AMPEX was already delivering the transverse-scan "Quad" VTR which buried all linear-scan VTRs (including RCA's baby, which was quite a shock the the self-proclaimed "television experts" there). The AMPEX work was kicked off by Bing Crosby Enterprises (yes, that Bing Crosby), and the team included the young Ray Dolby.

Happy April 1st!

Wait. It's April Fools Day. So, if I say Happy April 1st, do I really mean that or not?
This is the classic optimist / pessimist conundrum.
Is the glass half full, half empty, or twice as big as it should be?
We will have to think on that all day.
I can hardly wait until tomorrow.

We had a real April Fools played on us. The Kid was a "surprise you're pregnant" pregnancy shocking everyone. Then the punchline - The Kid was due April 1. Ha! Ha! Another surprise - he came two weeks early on St. Patrick's Day.

None of the above.

The glass has room for more wine.

Once again, I arose at 5:00 am, fed the kittehs, and will start Musical Asskicking at 6:15 so I will finish in time for my 8:00 class on continuing education.

On the bright side, it's 30° outside and I won’t walk until the lunch break at 12:30. It will be a little warmer then. :batting:

Ah. Great point, and a good assumption breaker.

All those who thought something other than water was in that glass raise your hand.

I didn't, but if I had, I would have realized after a couple drinks I wouldn't care - just pour more in.

Our first GD made haste and pushed out 3/31 so she wouldn't have the burden of being a 4/1 baby for the rest of her life. Now with her own daughter, that proved to be the first of many good decisions on her part.

My best friend growing up was an April Fool's Day baby. So is Rachel Maddow. I also have a friend who gave birth to a baby on February 29.

So, does she celebrate March 1, or is she 4 going on 16? :)

I use gabapentin (Neurontin). It relieves nerve pain in my legs. But it also makes it a tiny bit harder to lose weight.
