I think that's the most wishful of thinking, given today's puny awards.

I took it as "the jury assumed they could award less on actual damages since the real damages should be punitive in their minds." But I'm a damned optimist, still.

Just my perception: several things that have been said out of the presence of the jury made me think this, so I've been trying to listen for it. I hope I'm wrong. I hope my being wrong adds to the jury's intent to slam Jones for all he's worth, as defined by the plaintiffs times two. But I think the low number yesterday is a sign of things to come.

Anyway, we'll see!

One good thing, iirc from law school, is that punitive damage awards are not dischargeable in bankruptcy.

The word is out that the jury will be back in the courtroom in about ten minutes. The other word is "verdict" but who knows.

Reynal is filing an objection to the entry of judgment, as expected, under the statuory cap under Texas state law.

So now we'll see if the jury's $41 Million punitive award gets reduced to some multiple of $750k under the statutory cap.

Even if the amount of the judgment is the reduced amount, there's a certain moral force to the jury's verdict.

$45.2 million! That will send a message, all right. Unanimous jury, no matter that 2 jurors may have been InfoWars fans. A Texas jury, no less. Let's see how they spin this at CPAC.
