While it is a huge sucky range, back in the old days the people sang more whether at the pub or at home (or some other gathering). They did not have recorded music and full bands/ensembles cost money (side note - a single organist costs less than a full orchestra) so were more a music-producing society and not the music consumer society we are now. More usage means you are better in shape and will have a large range.

One of the side effects of Prosperity Theology (PT) is an abject and extensive loathing of anything decent. CPAC is comprised extensively of victims of PT.
