This may really be the bottom.
One thing I have learned by now from Trump is that no, we have never really reached the bottom.

Speaking of the bottom, Laura Loomer was originally on the panel, but they kicked her off because she repeatedly interrupted.

"We are suing Mediamatters in every country they operate in and all those who fund them"

Big words, let's see how you accomplish this.

Re Who fund them: nuissance law suits isn only a thing to be made in the US, so shareholders may need to go to court to have stuff dismissed. Outside of the US not possible. But how many shareholders are known?

Re sue in countries they operate in: Mediamatters is a US non-profit, so no, nowhere do they operate outside of the US. Even then, they would have to have a registered subsidiary, not just a representation. Nuissance law suits will not get accepted by most (all?) courts around the world by a foreign entity if the origin action did not emanate from an entity within that country. Other than in the US lawyers may get reprimanded for filing frivilous law suits, also too the suing party will be responsible for the costs of the sued party.

(The US law system is exceptional in that they accept lawsuits from anyone on the planet against anyone on the planet)

Thanks. I used that to sign up (finally). I am at https://bsky.app/profile/capitalismhq.bsky.social in case anybody cares. Perhaps those of us who are also on BlueSky, Mastodon or others could post their handles here or maybe we can create another forum to do that.

X, formerly Twitter, is being investigated over suspected breaches of obligations to combat fake news and illegal content

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-19/ ... /103244506

The European Union is investigating social media company X over suspected breaches of obligations, partly relating to posts following Hamas' attacks on Israel, its first probe under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Key points:

The EU will probe X's user safety and data access
X implemented 'community notes' to crowdsource moderation
Some European politicians have come out in support of Elon Musk and X

The DSA came into force in November last year and requires very large online platforms and search engines to do more to tackle illegal content and risks to public security.

The probe will focus on countering the dissemination of illegal content in the EU, and the effectiveness of measures taken to combat information manipulation, including the "community notes" system, the Commission said.

Hint to RWNJs: Europe is not the US of A. American style free speech is not part of the legal system of the various countries. And wonder-ohh-wonder, foreign entities are expected to follow local law! :blackeye:

It's Xitters EU local subsidiary that is responsible to implement EU laws. Elon in his wisdom has eliminated most of the staff that was responsible for monitoring content and reign in excesses.

Indeed. This is the Irish Constitution bit on Free speech. It's very different to the US Constitution.

https://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/cons/en/html
1° The State guarantees liberty for the exercise of the following rights, subject to public order and morality: –

i The right of the citizens to express freely their convictions and opinions.

The education of public opinion being, however, a matter of such grave import to the common good, the State shall endeavour to ensure that organs of public opinion, such as the radio, the press, the cinema, while preserving their rightful liberty of expression, including criticism of Government policy, shall not be used to undermine public order or morality or the authority of the State.

The publication or utterance of seditious or indecent matter is an offence which shall be punishable in accordance with law.

ii The right of the citizens to assemble peaceably and without arms.

Provision may be made by law to prevent or control meetings which are determined in accordance with law to be calculated to cause a breach of the peace or to be a danger or nuisance to the general public and to prevent or control meetings in the vicinity of either House of the Oireachtas.

iii The right of the citizens to form associations and unions.

Laws, however, may be enacted for the regulation and control in the public interest of the exercise of the foregoing right.

2° Laws regulating the manner in which the right of forming associations and unions and the right of free assembly may be exercised shall contain no political, religious or class discrimination.
