Populism is dangerous.
Seems to be arising around the world. I'm not blaming the US, although tfg certainly caused problems that continue. I wonder what life will be like in the near future.

Yes, some academics I heard said it’s an international problem, and tfg is symptom, not a cause.

In Europe, most countries now have some sort of populist movement with more than a token presence in normal politics, and often significant influence, especially if right-wing parties that have shifted to latch onto that vote are included. France, Germany, UK, Austria, Italy, Poland, Netherlands, Spain definitely, and probably most of the rest, whose politics I know little about.

Yep. This has happened before, and history is once again repeating. Not so much the same events, but a new version of them. More of a spiral than a repeat. I hope we get of this with limited damage, but likely we are in an era of disruption.

He should do a new one on Scotty (from Marketting) Morrison - there's plenty of material.

Yeah, what we have is populism fading fast in the rear view mirror. Because populism never really meant delusion and living in a fantasy world. Populism was appeal to the needs and desires of the lowest common denominator, but those needs and desires were always real, always grounded in the harsh reality of life for 'the little guy'. There was no part of the former understanding of populism that was based on enforcing a mass delusion like 'TFA won'.

We honest-to-god have an enormously large movement in this great land of ours, but membership and participation in it is predicated on vocally denying reality in favor of the naked king.

So this is very, very different from traditional populism.

A poot lying????! Neva!!!

Just like fighting bush fires or floods the ADF hasn’t brought guns to the fight against COVID.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-23/ ... /100642436

Australian Defence Force personnel will help drive a coronavirus testing blitz in at-risk parts of Katherine where residents have struggled to access testing facilities.

Key points:
ADF personnel will help transport residents living in and around Katherine to COVID testing clinics
Authorities say a lack of transport may be contributing to the area's low testing numbers
Personnel will also be stationed at checkpoints around Katherine to help with compliance and education

NT police commissioner-
He said about 40 ADF personnel were already on the ground in Katherine and surrounding areas helping with compliance and education.

He said the ADF were not being required to "do any enforcement".

Twenty personnel will assist police at three control points around Katherine.

They include a turn-off near Binjari, one of two remote communities currently under a hard lockdown.

On Tuesday evening an ADF spokesman said ADF personnel were serving "in a supporting role to NT Police" and were not "empowered or authorised" to conduct any law enforcement activities.

Them wobbegongs are fierce!!!
:shark2:

https://tracksmag.com.au/investigation- ... ims-423083

Paul Welsh, 46, was said to be pushing his son into waves at The Basin north of Mona Vale Beach at around 8am yesterday when he was attacked from below and forced into the air by the blow of a shark. He (and witnesses) then stated there was a tug of war between the two. A tug of war Paul said, “…I won.”

:snippity:
Explaining that he was in the water with his 13-year-old son swimming when he saw “a whole lot of thrashing”.

“It’s launched straight up into him, knocked him out of the water and then latched onto his leg, and luckily, he had a chance to grab onto a rock and the shark’s actually thrashing, trying to drag him back into the water,” he said. “He’s managed to release himself from the shark and crawl up onto the rocks and just had a big bite mark in his leg and blood just streaming out of it.” He also explained the style of attack from his point of view was that of a great white, coming from underneath and hitting hard. He also mentioned the shape of the tale being that familiar with a juvenile white.
:snippity:

News that Paul had sold his story to channel Nine before even reaching the hospital has some people obviously suspicious (even us here at Tracksmag.com), but on hearing Paul’s claims to newspapers and the added testimony of shark expert and Surfwatch director Michael Brown (who witnessed the incident), and our photographer Matt Jones who spoke directly with Paul after the incident, it all sounded legit.

Michael Brown of Terry Hills has been pushing hard for his service of helicopter shark patrols to be government funded to the tune of around $150,000 dollars (total cost $200,000). He has since retracted this request due to concerns that if this contract was undertaken government authorities would use gag orders to suppress information for fear of scaring the populous.
:snippity:

The article is well worth a read...

ps. :oldman: Billabongs are bodies of freshwater - often cut off from river flow by lack of water flow - so while you might find a bull shark stranded in one - it is unlikely... :fingerwag:
