It’s a hair-raising process starting an irregular blank. The piece can bash loose, and if you’re impatient it can flip the chisel out of your hands. Which is why lathes near a wall are always at an angle, not parallel, to it.

Cool.

Have you heard about the ex-Apple engineer (he was responsible for the first Apple printer) that wanted to make a giant model layout? He was aiming for the largest in the world and spent an absolute fortune accumulating the models, and then died suddenly.

He apparently left 5 or 6 storage units packed to the rafters with the stuff and the family finally got sick of dealing with it so the last one they put up for auction and it sold, sight unseen, to a guy that buys abandoned lockers and makes videos about what he finds - FOR ONE DOLLAR. He was absolutely astounded when he opened it up and found hundreds of thousands of dollars of model trains, planes, firetrucks, etc. etc. etc. It took him months to go through it all.

This is the first video on that locker. I think there was about 10 or 11 in the series.

We had to build one of these for squirt's school project, but ours was string and cardboard. This is...a little more extreme.

Sorry I don’t think they’re the same person.
I googled “genius girl” and the other popped up.
Nevertheless I’ve turned a fee wrenches myself, and watched other people fumble. She’s really good.

Lin Guoer. Interesting story also.
I’ve worked in maintenance for years mostly electrical. I’ve often wondered why more women don’t get into the field. It’s dirty, and hard at times, but the sense of accomplishment can’t be beat at times.

LOVED THIS!!!!

My mom was the fixit person in our house. Her mother was fixit before that. My twin sister and I did not get the fixit gene.

Hubby is Mr. Fixit. He and Mom used to have long discussions about how to fix things, the size of various nuts and screws, the tools used ,etc. I guess it's true what they say: I married my mom.
