But only these seven (7) budget vetoes, y'all.

As opposed to, y'know, all the other things that aren't budget vetoes which might be entered into evidence for the public debate.

I'm curious, Desantis just signed a bill to not accept drivers licenses from 7 states, doesn't that fly directly in the face of the full faith and credit clause of the constitution?
Article IV, Section 1:

Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.

I believe the affected DLs are all restricted in some way in their home state. It's not all DLs from those states.

My understanding is that DLs from the affected states (Delaware, Connecticut, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermont) are still valid, providing the possessor is in the country legally. That said, I suppose if you are from one of those states you'd better be carrying proof of citizenship with you (passport, birth cert.) if you are driving in FL.

This is a good question. I expect litigation on this exact issue.

Per this site, 19 states issue driver's licenses without proof of legal status. It would appear, however, Fla. SB 1718 is aimed only at classes of licenses that are issued only to those without proof of legal status, e.g., those issued and labeled, "Not for Federal Identification," "Driving Privilege Only," etc.

Too also: It probably won't be long before there's also litigation over whether only people of a certain hue from the impacted states are required to show proof of legal status. (I.e., is being issued a driving-privilege-only license probable cause of illegal presence in the United States (and is the detaining officer authorized to enforce federal immigration law)?)

The purpose of Fla. SB 1718, of course, is not enforcement, but deterrence.

DeSantis might as well write a check directly to the ACLU.

Now, now, now, if Article IV, Section 1 was really important, it would be part of the Second Amendment, which along with the part that makes the County Sherriff the highest official in America are the only parts of the Constitution which really mean anything. Oh, and the part that makes the US a Christian Nation, that's pretty important, too.

My Driver's License says that, up in the right hand corner, because I didn't want to bother gathering the list of stuff Ohio makes you get (A Passport is not enough for the license but it is enough to fly) and I didn't want to pay an extra $25 or so for it. Please please please pull me over and then detain me in Floriduh for that. I want to get in on that DeSantis Bonus Money. I might even try to look foreign if I go there, and I might even run a red light....

"Not for Federal Identification" (aka the REAL ID Act of 2005) may be a real snag because the lack of a REAL-ID-complaint driver's license doesn't necessarily imply the lack of legal status to be in the United States.

It just means you didn't "papers, please" to your local DMV's satisfaction.

Casey DeSantis ‘mamas’ video labeled ‘desperate effort’ to save husband’s campaign
Florida first lady outlines Ron DeSantis’s hardline rightwing agenda in video accusing progressives of ‘coming after our kids’

Martin Pengelly in Washington
Fri 7 Jul 2023 19.30 BST

Vowing not to let progressives “impose an agenda” on American children and their mothers, Casey DeSantis outlined the hardline rightwing agenda her husband has imposed on Florida and now wants to impose on America.

The Florida first lady did so in a new video for Mamas for DeSantis, a group supporting Governor Ron DeSantis’s campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

On the left, the video met with derision. Ja’han Jones, a columnist for MSNBC, called Mamas for DeSantis “a life preserver thrown to a candidate in distress, a desperate effort to save a floundering campaign before it drowns in its namesake’s mediocrity”.

Set to dramatic music and cut in similar staccato fashion to a DeSantis ad attacking Donald Trump on LGBTQ+ rights which caused widespread controversy last week, Casey DeSantis’s video listed Republican bugbears including school initiatives on diversity, equity and inclusion, LGBTQ+ rights and race in US history, all of which she said her husband had “stopped”.

She added: “When you come after our kids, we fight back because there’s nothing we will not do to protect our children. They’re not yours. These are our kids.”

Of her husband, who has often used his own children in political ads, including this one, DeSantis said: “We will not allow you to exploit [our kids’] innocence to advance your agenda.”

The only exploitation that is allowed of children is to advance Ron’s agendas.

Yeah, well, when you come after MY kids, I'll fight back too. If I say my kid or grandkid can go to Drag Queen Story Time or attend a Gay Pride parade, then, by dog, you should not be able to stop me.

So lemme get this straight....

Because of a law YOUR HUSBAND had passed and signed into law, it is possible that a family with a transgender child could come on vacation to Disney World and that child could be taken from those parents, because they had allowed the child to receive non-surgical gender affirming care.

Or of the child survives the trip to Disney but as a teenager is more obviously transgendered and comes to Daytona for spring break as a 16 year old. During the trip the child comes into contact with law enforcement and this time is taken permanently from the family, again, because of the way the parents let them live their life. "It's for the children".

You literally have laws in effect to legally steal children, even if they don't live in Florida, and you have the cojones to make ads about the liberals "coming for our children".

Well, Casey, you and Ron can fuck all the way off.

It's really rich hearing DeSantis say he's going to end the weaponization of government.

Also, word on the street is that conventions and hotel reservations are taking a serious hit due to DeSantis, specifically in Broward county. I'll link an article later.

I know Orlando has lost, I believe, at least three conventions because of the inhospitable nature of DuhSantis (DeSatan also works) legislation. And these are for conventions being planned for '24 and beyond. At least one of those has been meeting in Orlando for years.

Sad because of how anti-DeSantis Broward County actually is.

Broward County voted for Biden by 30% over TFG in 2020. But Broward County also voted only 15% Christ over DeSantis in 2022.

Still anti-DeSantis, but not by as much.

In some respects, that was more about Crist, I think, but I could be wrong. I had no beef with the guy, but I don't think having a beef with him was uncommon. He was considered an opportunist who occasionally delivered in some of the bluer pockets of the state.
