Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will sit with CNN for their first joint interview on Thursday as Democrats work to broaden their base’s excitement from last week’s Democratic National Convention.

The interview, conducted by CNN’s chief political correspondent and anchor Dana Bash, will air at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday. It occurs as the candidates embark on a bus tour through the battleground state of Georgia and marks the first time Harris has sat with a journalist for an in-depth, on-the-record conversation since President Joe Biden dropped his bid for a second term and endorsed her on July 21.

The 37 days since her candidacy began have generated a swell of enthusiasm and momentum for Harris, including at last week’s convention in Chicago. But her lack of a formal news conference or interview has generated criticism from her Republican rivals. Thursday’s interview fulfils a vow she made earlier in August to schedule a sit-down before the end of the month.

Person claiming they weren't planning to vote because "Walz stole money from the Minnesota state budget that was intended to help LGBTQ+ people and gave it all instead to the Harris campaign".

Ignoring the fact that a governor can't just decide to place state funds into a candidate's war chest (otherwise I can see some red states donating a large chunk of their state budget to trump), it's such a tall-tale and OBVIOUS lie that it's amazing anyone is gullible enough to believe it. It sounds more like someone attempting to drive away possible voters, to depress the LGBTQ+ vote, or simply try to play the "both sides are bad so I won't vote for either" card.

I think 2017-2021 should have taught people how wrong that card is.

Despite Harris gaining in his national poll average, today Trump is back in the lead in Nate Silver's model, up 52.4% to 47.3% (probability of winning). A post explains this is because his model is correcting for a presumed post-convention bounce in her favor:

[The model] assumes Harris’s polls are somewhat inflated right now, in other words — just as it assumed Trump’s numbers were inflated after the RNC. While there’s a solid basis for this empirically, you could argue we’re under unusual circumstances because of her late entry into the race. So if you want to treat all of this as a little fuzzier than usual, I don’t really mind that. The good news for Harris is that if she merely holds her current numbers for a couple more weeks, she’ll begin to track up again in our forecast as the model will become more confident that she’s out of the convention bounce period.

Another theme he highlights is persistent problems in Pennsylvania, the probable tipping-point state: "if she’s only tied in Pennsylvania now, during what should be one of her stronger polling periods, that implies being a slight underdog in November" though again, a few good numbers in future polls could change this.

I hardly treat his model as gospel, but I consider it a good reminder of something that I think can be hard for the Democratic faithful to appreciate amid all the good feeling and enthusiasm for Harris (which I certainly share). The election is shockingly close, virtually a tossup. Trump for all his problems retains a very good chance of winning.

The "opinion" isn't sarcasm.

Okay. I went and read Ms. Parker's little essay (and by saying "little" I am gently letting the reader know that I did not take kindly to what she wrote, and establishing my bias, which it is my duty as a good critic to do). I've been an editor for--my lord--it's 30 years now, and I feel moved to share that had this material crossed my desk, I would have sent back my notes with the judgement that it was not yet fit for publication.

For one thing, the writer's theme is "lying," which she posits as something her father would not tolerate, but fails to further define by either analysis or example before calling Tim Walz a liar. She then appeals to objectivity by pointing out that there are lies and then there are lies. Still not highly helpful.

Second, she doesn't put her examples of Walz's lying (you know them, cause RWM has been kvetching about them for days) into any sort of context. Enough said on that.

But third and most egregiously, she makes the mistake that prompted my remark about sending the essay back to the drawing room: she lies. Repeatedly. (Example, she tells us that both fuckhead and Vance are in favor of IVF.) Oh, maybe not the sort of lies that my father would have called out--he was a thinking man and understood that everything is relative--but according to her own feeble definition, counting her fudges, omissions, and shoddy logic, she lied.

So there.

Governor Tim Walz is at the Minnesota State Fair today. Because of that, fair goers have to go through metal detectors, so the lines are going to be nuts. The Minnesota State Fair is hugely popular and the weather today if absolutely perfect, so there will be more than 200K people attending. Good photo ops for Walz.
