House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, may back out of a planned third vote on his speaker bid as opposition from holdout Republicans grows deeper amid a controversial intimidation campaign by his allies.

“Nearly everyone involved in the discussions with Team Jordan says the Ohio Republican doesn't want to go to the floor for a third vote” following a humiliating defeat that saw him lose votes on the second ballot on Wednesday, Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman reported on Thursday, noting that Jordan’s representatives have denied the claim.

Republican sources told CNN’s Manu Raju that Jordan is “bleeding votes and is poised to lose even more Republicans if he goes through with a third ballot today.”

“One GOP member who opposes Jordan says there are about 30 R no votes,” he tweeted. “It’s unclear if Jordan goes through with the noon vote.”

McHenry (R-N.C.), according to people familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to detail private discussions. After two failed votes, Republicans had made clear the conservative firebrand didn’t have enough support to win the speaker’s gavel. With House functions at a standstill, lawmakers will now move forward with a proposal to expand the powers of the acting speaker.

Republicans who had staunchly supported Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for Speaker are now fuming at him over a plan to empower Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) to move legislation on the House floor until January.

Rep. Fallon says two-thirds of GOP members oppose empowering McHenry

Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, said this afternoon that "two-thirds" of the Republican House members oppose empowering McHenry and have mentioned "four or five" names besides Jordan's.

"I oppose the resolution for a very simple reason. We were elected by three quarters of a million people, each and every one of us to lead, not kick the can down the road," Fallon said.

Fallon said members were in an "ugly process" but they need to "muddle through it." He added that the division of the Republican Party in the House has enabled Democratic sway in the process.

"So now because of this ugly process, what has this party done? It has enabled the Democrats to determine the way forward, in part, because if all 212 Democrats vote for this resolution, it will pass. If all of them oppose it, it will fail," Fallon said.
