Chauvin seemed stunned at the 2nd degree murder guilty verdict.

Did he honestly think he would be acquitted?

Interesting.

I found his demeanor very strange. I could not read it at all. He had to expect conviction though.

I think he thought he'd be acquitted of 2nd degree murder.

I think it's possible he was that self-deluded. I strongly suspect his attorney knew what was coming. Their whole strategy was to play for a hung jury. As soon as the jury came back with a verdict, the jig was up.

Again, I wonder why?

There is some powerful self delusion going on there.

Yes. He knelt on a guy's back for over 9 minutes and preened to the videoing crowd. He's a narcissist!

Chauvin got away with so much for so many years I was not at all surprised at how shocked and confused he seemed to be at being found guilty of 2nd degree murder. I think he really thought he was going to get a hung jury. And when the verdict came back so fast I think he probably convinced himself he was going to totally get away with it.

I'm gonna go down to Denny's and indite GIL Klayman to celebrate.

Maybe in a few days, I'm a bizzy rooster. :oldman:

History? Data? Life experience? The odds were in his favor given how often such cases do not even make it to trial, much less result in conviction. He needed a prosecutor who actually wanted him convicted, and had to roll the dice poorly on the jury.

I also picked today, but was hoping for any of the three. Very emotional right now with hoping that maybe we are going to start to turn the corner on racism.

I have found it strange throughout the trial. Zero reaction, or even any expression of interest, in any of the witnesses. Just that weird, constant note-taking. The only time I ever saw him even look at someone else was when he talked to Nelson. It was probably something his attorney told him to do , but it came off to me as obsessive or something. Like that hypergraphia mental illness thing. I would love to see his note pads.

Two times I had an actual, physical reaction while watching the trial. Once when prosecutor Steve got flustered and did some weird thing with his face. Once when Chauvin was holding the microphone answering Nelson's questions about pleading the 5th. Both times I had a literal cringe. No idea why with the prosecutor, but the way Chauvin was holding the mic and how his hand looked gave me a shiver and I couldn't even look at it again. I had all the emotions watching the different videos and testimony, but not the physical reaction I did with those two. No idea why either.

Notable was the strength of each juror's voice when the jury was polled.

Watching Chauvin cuffed was satisfying.

Mr. Brodd's now 2/2 in getting his clients convicted. Hopefully his career is over.

People brace themselves outcomes but often don't expect the worst case scenario to be possible. Chauvin had to delude himself to get through the trial. He couldn't imagine being a white ex-cop in prison for the murder of a black man, esp such a brutal murder.

Life is going to be very, very bad for Chauvin. He's finally facing consequences.

Chauvin honestly thinks he did nothing wrong. And he expected the jurors to give him the benefit of the doubt because he was a cop on the job as he murdered George Floyd.

I'm sure his lawyer told him to expect the worst. But that's a hard thing to prepare for.

I hope so. I was horrified that someone like Mr Brodd is out there training police officers. Then my second thought was, no wonder.

Thanks be to Xenu!
This is a huge first step in addressing the wound that is opened each time police murders happen.
Shock-waves will be felt throughout police-forces.

Of course it will be appealed but murder by cop just narrowed as an option.
