Seven of them so far. Now eight.

Soon they will fly one at a time into the trees or onto our cottage. I have no idea why our cottage is especially favored. :confuzzled:

Yes. Not that long ago wild turkeys were extinct everywhere in New York State due to over hunting.

After turkey hunting was banned a few turkeys wandered into NYS from Pennsylvania.

Since hunting, except for a heavily regulated bow hunt deer cull in the Fall, is banned on the East End they introduced some turkeys in the preserves on the South Fork. The turkeys survived and spread north.

They eat ticks so it is all good.

Oldies radio reports that the eastbound traffic over the Canal on the South Fork is very slow this morning. No surprise. ;)

Are you suggesting that the two parts of your post causally related, or are they completely separate phenomena?

Speaking of the Oldies station-

Tonight is their final Thursday evening concert of the summer.

As of 10 minutes ago they were still playing their concerts promo from early summer advising listeners to mark their calendars for the concert dates. A bit late for that. ;)

Likely no live DJs. As many stations are now on full auto. Preprogrammed what songs to play and insert (old) commercials.

Don't I know it. Shoot, it may be remoted thru the interwebs via network appliance meant for program quality audio like a Barix. The studio engineer could be in Houston with a vpn to the transmitter site somewhere on LI. They sound great, and they aren't expensive.

Thanks!

Reading up, that is one storied station based in Sag Hahbah. Privately held commercial broadcaster that indeed keeps it local.

Yep. On the air since 1963. Current owners are a husband and wife. Wife is a Sag Harbor native. Husband is their morning DJ and meteorologist.

You can listen online anywhere in the world. Also watch the DJs on their live webcam.

WLNG serves the 5 East End towns which have a total of only about 160K residents. There are several other East End stations and coastal Connecticut stations also serving the area.

Since WLNG has only local advertisers it can't bring in a lot of revenue.

Current owners bought it to keep it live and local much to the relief of its fans including me.

Two songs! You get two songs before it rolls into another commercial break? Wow. That said, I have yet to hear a nationally made commercial. They are all locally produced. That's pretty cool.

Oh! Girl from Ipanema. I had such a boy crush on Astrud Gilberto.

There are even fewer commercials during the evening and overnight.

Another bit of local color.

The day after Labor Day here is called Tumbleweed Tuesday because all the crowds of summer people are suddenly gone. ;)

Of course this is but a brief respite of a few weeks before the dreaded Pumpkin Traffic begins.

Yes, the Hampton Classic Horse Show is on this week. It is a really big deal amongst wealthy horsey folk.

WLNG DJ Mandi is not only English but also knows about horses. She has been broadcasting from the show all week.

WLNG reporting heavier than usual traffic on the South Fork this afternoon and predicting it will get worse this evening as folks arrive for the long weekend.

Ah, the problems of the very rich. ;)
