Rt 27 has been closed for a few miles west of the airport and east of the canal.

This is a very bad time to need help from police, fire or ambulance services.

One would have thought that planners would have opted for a helicopter jump from the airport to the venue.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for the Family V to gather for a Yahtzee game, or at least some Gin.

Not certain exactly where Trump was visiting but if it was Southampton there are many limitations on the use of aircraft.
No person shall land, cause to be landed, bring to rest or cause to be brought to rest any airplane, helicopter or other aircraft anywhere in the Village of Southampton except in case of emergency and except at a location which the Board of Trustees, by resolution thereof, designates as an authorized location for the landing of aircraft.
There is a heliport in Southampton but it can not be used after 7 PM.
All landing approaches must be overwater approaches from Shinnecock Bay, and all departures must proceed directly from the helipad to and over Shinnecock Bay until at least one nautical mile from the Village heliport prior to turning east or west. Arrival and departure tracks must be on a vector that is less than 30° off a line perpendicular to the coastline adjacent to the heliport extending into Shinnecock Bay. Takeoffs and landings from or to the east or west over land or along the coastlines of either Shinnecock Bay or the Atlantic Ocean are inherently unsafe and are prohibited.

The more expensive parts of it that are inhabited by billionaires are Trump country. The westernmost parts are purple.

Did a little more research on helicopters and the South Fork because rules have been changing.

Some points-

https://ehamptonny.gov/311/Airport

Helicopters are not allowed to fly over or land and take of from the North Fork. (Much quieter here since this rule went into effect. ;)) Helicopters bound for East Hampton Airport from the north (the preferred route) have to fly around the NF and then go SW to get to the airport following a prescribed route over the bays.

There are only 4 places on the South Fork where helicopters can land, Gabreski Airport in Westhampton, the Southampton Heliport, the East Hampton Airport and the Montauk Airport. Helicopters must approach and leave these airports only along short narrowly defined routes which lead to the Atlantic Ocean or the LI Sound(the preferred route). Otherwise helicopters can not fly over any part of the South Fork. The southern route from the Atlantic to East Hampton is not always open.

Gabreski Airport is open until 11 PM.

The East Hampton and Montauk Airports close at sunset. The Southampton Heliport closes at 7 PM. It has minimal facilities.

Trump flew as close as possible to the South Fork by landing at Gabreski given that he was leaving after dark.

I drove from Swannanoa, NC to Luray, VA in that rain today. One of my passengers was watching the front on his phone and said it was going to go from Alabama to New York. It made for miserable driving. Here in Luray, nary a drop.

Mrs.V's sister's flight back to Maine today has been cancelled. Weather reasons.

She is on her phone trying to get another flight.

Looks like she may be here a few more days.

Mrs.V's sister here until Tuesday. This has required her to reschedule her blood tests planned for tomorrow in Maine to be done here. Not much of a problem. Quest has labs everywhere.

Cousin and family in the cottage to our left leave tomorrow. Cousin just came over to give us their uneaten food.

Oldies station doing Christmas in August programming today.

More rain in the forecast.

After yesterday night's rain 63 Long Island beaches were closed today due to bacterial pollution.

Might be a coincidence.

Tropical Storm Debby: Latest Forecast For LI Impacts
Before the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby it Long Island this weekend, a flood watch is in effect through Wednesday morning, the NWS says.

https://patch.com/new-york/northfork/tr ... 754e7b7a62
LONG ISLAND, NY — Severe storms and flooding are possible throughout the Long Island region through the weekend, forecasters with the National Weather said Tuesday. The unsettled weather is fueled by tropical air that is on the periphery of Debby, AccuWeather forecasters said.

But, before worrying about Debby's impacts, Long Islanders need to be aware of a significant rain event coming Tuesday night that could cause flooding, said Brian Ciemnecki, meteorologist with the NWS office in Upton.

"Eyes need to be on tonight first," he told Patch, adding that a flood watch has been issued for Long Island through Wednesday morning.

Tuesday night's rain is not directly sparked by Tropical Storm Debby, he said; those impacts will be felt as the low moves further north into the weekend, he said.

Tuesday night's rain is expected to bring the potential for "significant flooding" Tuesday afternoon and evening, potentially overnight, Ciemnecki said.

Our older daughter and SIL saw the US Womens Olympic Football team defeat Germany today.

Since they got the tickets a year ago they have been hoping the US team would advance far enough so they could see them.

Still in the mid 60s and damp.

Mrs.V's DC cousin who has a cottage on the Circle has recovered from Covid.

She and Mrs. V have headed over to Greenport to shop leaving me alone to wait for the forecast rain.

Many outdoor events have already been cancelled due to the forecast.

The rain will likely cause many beach closures just in time for the weekend.
