I like it. Even if it reminds me of pea soup. But it’s easy on the eyeballs.

Yeah, when I went through all the styles I had installed, I thought a nice green one would be a good addition. GraandNew and Reds are so similar I wish I'd only installed one of them, but people use both so I'll leave them as is.

I'm using the Green one all day today, and it's pretty readable.

Hah!

Aha!

Eureka and stuff!

I freakin' FINALLY figured out why new members were able to post right away, when their first three posts are supposed to be held in the moderation queue until sumbuddy (yeah, the dick tater or the mods) takes a look at them to make sure they're not spam. Or worse. :o

That has been bugging me for a while. :oldman:

No, it was a thing about permission settings in the Admin Control Panel.

Boring, but necessary. :bored:

I have officially switched to Green. Good-bye Creamy. You served me well for many-a-year.

Currently using Green-Style-Split, but I have no idea why that is different from the other two Greens. If anyone knows, please share!

There, didja see it?

No, you didn't see it.

A creepy little spammer spammed us with a bunch of threads containing links to products and nothing else. He was on the forum for hours, trashing the place. Up all night.

BUT my board is FINALLY holding posts by noobs, to give me a chance to approve them.

Or not.

In this case, not.

He did a lot of work, all for naught.

I am not disappoint.

Yeah, I have been dying to test it out after I figured out what the problem was, so I approved everybody who tried to join Fogbow for a week, HOPING to get a spammer so I could test the new settings.

I know I should seek professional help, maybe later. :oopsy:

Normally, unless I recognize your username, I try to do a little bit of investigating before I approve a new member. Sorry, don't try to join from an IP in China or Bangladesh or Russia. You can join from Ukraine this month. 🇺🇦 If you don't spam us. I hope the computer geeks in Ukraine are fighting the computer guys from Russia, not spamming Americans.

Don't join using the email address joe@spammersrus.ru either, I look at what mah goog says about your email address. Some spammers use email addresses that are on spammer list websites.

But not for the past few days, I needed a spammer to practice on.

The volume of Russian spam from my website, which was insane in volume, tanked after the initial sanctions. It's ramping up again. I don't hear from NIgerian princes anymore, mainly Russians.

I didn't get the chance to update the forum software today, but that is a thing which must be done.

For some reason, they skipped a version. We're going from phpBB 3.3.5 to version 3.3.7 without stopping at 3.3.6.

As you know, I pay attention to these things, and they never offered me 3.3.6, it isn't like I missed it or anything. I could find out what it was, but don't much care. Onward and upward.

We'll upgrade to 3.3.7 if I can get up at 5:30 a.m. and shut off the forum at 6:00.

This is something I've done many times, so don't fret. It will, however, temporarily impact some of our board styles.

No, these usually have security fixes that you don't want to miss. There's no emergency on installing the latest, but they do red-flag the Admin Control Panel so you can't really miss the fact that they insist you upgrade, but they won't fine you or put you in prison if you don't want to do it.

But I like to keep up to date. There has never yet been a problem caused by an update to the software. Once, back in early 2010, I neglected to disable the forum and kick everyone off while I upgraded to a new version. Somebody posted something while the database was being updated and it crashed the database. I had to pay $175 out of my own pocket, but it wasn't the update, it was a bad day installing the update. When I got it done right, it worked perfectly.

I would say that the forum is running like a Swiss watch, but I used to say that about the first Fogbow, and it really was running perfectly until I woke up one morning and I didn't have a server any more. :violin: :crying:

So I'm scared to say that again, but things are going ... well.

The board, in some past iteration, would give us unread posts when we clicked on 'active topics' at the top. Any chance this version has that same option and that it could be implemented?

Pretty please?

Prosilver.

At one time, the 'active topics' only gave unread posts, not all of the posts. To get only unread posts now, I have to go to 'quick links' and then 'unread posts'. I'm old and lazy and have cancer, so the extra scrolling and clicking wears me out. :oldlady:
