No doubt T****'s "social media" platform will be run as efficiently as his other endeavors. No doubt he will hire only the best people to run security so it doesn't get hacked because it won't be a target for hackers or anything.

OTOH, it will give the FBI a new place to monitor the domestic terrorists.

His competitors would not be Twitter or Facebook but Parler, Telegraph, and Gab. He does not even have the cash to upfront a new social media from scratch (Twitter and Facebook did not start with 10s of millions of users). Is he going to compete against the other right-wing sites without the Mercer bucks?

Good luck with that.

Promises unkept...

Someone else could make a successful RWNJ site using his name. The problem is he will want his cut, and it will be a cut of the gross, a cut so large that it will frighten off any investor, developer, anyone who isn't crazy.

What I envisage is Team Turd will have some shitty consultancy with RWNJ credentials spin up some proof of concept kludge based around one of the open source Instant Messenger platforms.

They'll sell it to Team Turd as all singing, all dancing and "Hey it's open source so it's FREE!!!!" (Notwithstanding the non community, business cost requirement) take a bit old fist of cash then fade away leaving TT holding the bag.

He'll squeal like a stuck pig when the bills and cease and desist orders turn up, threaten to sue everyone and their uncle then rail against The Swamp/Deep State and 'Send Money", rinse and repeat

Methinks he's going to be busy with a lot of financial things during the next two years. Also heard today, he may end up being charged with various serious crimes relating to the January 6 debacle. Create a new social media? Oh sure. I've heard that you have lots of time on your hands while in prison, but very little internet access.

Trump still being investigated over Capitol riot, top prosecutor says

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... 1616414622
Federal investigators are still examining Donald Trump’s role in inciting the attack on the US Capitol.

Michael Sherwin, the departing acting US attorney for the District of Columbia, confirmed that the former president is still under investigation over the 6 January putsch in an interview with CBS 60 Minutes on Sunday.

“Maybe the president is culpable,” he said.

Sherwin also said there were now more than 400 cases against participants in the riot and said that if it is determined Brian Sicknick, the Capitol police officer who died, did so because he was hit with bear spray, murder charges would likely follow.

I suspect what he is really hoping is that in 2-3 months he will find someone willing to pay him for the Trump brand on their social media platform.

I suspect that is true. His modus operandi has long been to license his name to projects that he is otherwise uninvolved with.

I wonder how much his brand is worth now? Will there be any takers?

In the case of a new social media platform, it would have to be someone willing and able to spend the tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars to build and promote a world-class platform, to compete with FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram et al. I don't see anyone like that on the horizon. The Mercers may be trying to revive Parler, but it apparently isn't going too well.

Would anyone spending that kind of money today be willing to spend another few million and a cut of the take, simply to put Trump's name on it?

I could see Trump setting up a (shitty, hackable) platform and then charging users $4.99 a month (or more) to use it. There seem to be enough rubes/idiots/traitors in this country that it might sell for a while.

To get the kind of adulation that his ego requires, he needs a platform with 10,000,000 users, not 10,000. A 10M user platform will be quite expensive and difficult to set up. I 10K user platform won't get by on $50,000 per month.

Its a case of "go big or go home".

If he is going to partner with anyone, it will probably be a social media company (likely with a bit of state backing) that has a service already and is looking for some branding to get itself noticed. Or in the case of something quietly state backed, someone willing to pay in order to keep access to trump's base. It is also possible that there is no interested partner and no real plan to implement his own, but his team is hoping that the fear of new right wing competition might get Gab or Parlor back to the negotiating table with more favorable terms.
