Has anyone gone to or heard anything about the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition? It has already been in several US cities and is coming here next month. I've looked at the website, secret location, prices, reviews, but can't decide about it. We'd like to take my granddaughter with us. It's only $30 for a child, but the adult prices range from $40-$99, I guess depending on whether you want to sit on a cushion or stand, or I guess you can sit on the floor without a pillow. :?

Years ago, we went to an exhibit by an Icelander, Ragnar Kjartansson, a performance artist, that was awesome. I suspect this may be something like it, which means I'd love this. We went back several times and got to meet him at one of them.

ETA: Holy cow, I went to the website, and there's only limited availability through November. Guess I better decide soon.

GO! Go more than once if possible. I have friends all over the country who are traveling to go see it. I have literally heard not one bad (or even neutral) review of it from people who have actually visited. Even people who aren't art or museum goers.

I bought tickets in May to see it in Jan 2022, on the Mr’s birthday. I’m hoping not to hear any crushing reviews. :notlistening:

By the way, if any of you ever get the chance to see one by Ragnar (I think he has one called The Visitor going around now), it would be worth it. It was also immersive, more music and multiple videos. I'd like to see The Visitor, but I haven't heard anything about it coming here yet. There are multiple versions of it as there are with the Van Gogh exhibit. When I saw the one at the art museum in Pittsburgh, it was the only place you could experience it. I had a short video of it on my phone for a long time, but it got left behind with one of the phone changes, probably when I went to iPhone.

Bill Seeks To End North Carolina As Child Bride Destination
Proposed legislation would raise the state’s minimum marriage age from 14 to 16 and limit the age difference between a 16-year-old and their spouse.

GARY D. ROBERTSON

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Known for its coastlines, mountains and the state that was “first in flight,” North Carolina has also developed a more dubious reputation recently: as a regional destination for adults who want to marry children.

State lawmakers are nearing passage of a bill that could dampen the state’s appeal as the go-to place to bring child brides — but would still leave it short of a national push to increase the age to 18. The proposed legislation would raise the minimum marriage age from 14 to 16 and limit the age difference between a 16-year-old and their spouse to four years.

“We will have moved the needle and made North Carolina no longer at the very bottom of the barrel of states,” said Drew Reisinger, the register of deeds in Buncombe County. But, he said, “we’re still going to be putting a lot of children in harm’s way.”

Reisinger said the county, which includes the popular tourist city of Asheville, is a destination for many adults and child brides from nearby states such as Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee — all of which have raised the minimum marriage age in recent years.

Two-thirds of the marriage applications in Buncombe County last year were filed by nonresidents seeking to marry an underage person, Reisinger said, noting that a 49-year-old man and 17-year-old girl recently came from Kentucky seeking a license.

“North Carolina is one of the friendliest states in the South to give them safe haven,” he remarked.

The state is currently one of 13 that allow children under 16 to wed, according to Unchained at Last, a nonprofit organization that advocates ending child and forced marriages in the U.S. Nine of those states have no set minimum age, the group says, relying instead on case law or a judge’s ruling.

Under current North Carolina law, children as young as 14 can get married if they become pregnant and if a judge allows it. Otherwise, children can wed as young as 16 with parental permission. Alaska is the only other state whose law expressly allows marriages as young as 14.

 :nope:

We marry our cousins here, too.

Sadly, 1) I got married before we moved here, and 2) I don't have any cousins living in the state.

So I'm not eligible. :blackeye:

I like how they spell his name three different ways, 1 in the headline (which spelling is never used again), then alternating between Kurson and Curson in the article, finally settling on Curson. :batting:

18 years ago today I lost my only sister, and the last of my birth family. She was a goober, even though she lived to be 48 years old, she never got mentally older than 5 years old. She was daddy's little girl that never grew up. I had custody of her after my mom passed away and and kept her at home with me for 11 years until she passed away peacefully in her own bed. Her name was Vicki. RIP Vickaroo!
