Trump reps reportedly told Parler he'd become an active member of the right-wing platform if it banned his critics, but it refused

  • Trump reps reportedly told Parler he'd become an active member of the right-wing platform if it banned his critics, but it refused
Trump reps proposed he join Parler in return for 40% of its revenue and a ban on his critics. Parler balked at the idea, according to a new book.
Trump was reportedly prepared to join Parler, the social-media site, if it banned his critics.
Trump reps told Parler he could become an active user on Parler, per an excerpt from an upcoming Michael Wolff book.

Parler, which is popular with the far-right, balked at the suggestion of banning Trump's critics, Wolff wrote.

Former President Donald Trump was prepared to become an active user of social-media site Parler if it banned his critics - but it resisted doing so, according to an excerpt from an upcoming Michael Wolff book.

In an excerpt from "Donald Trump's January 6: The view from inside the Oval Office," published in New York Magazine on Monday, Wolff wrote that Trump's representatives approached Parler when Trump was in office, proposing that he join the platform once he left the White House.

Parler is a right-wing website that was popular with pro-Trump extremists around the time of the Capitol riots on January 6.

"They had floated a proposition that Trump, after he left office, become an active member of Parler, moving much of his social-media activity there from Twitter," Wolff wrote.

Interesting that the DFO is level with POTUS 14, and above 15 and 17, who bookended the Civil War.

Former President Donald Trump enters the ranks for the first time in the #41 position. His highest rankings were in Public Persuasion (#32) and Economic Management (#34). The historians ranked him in last place (#44) for Moral Authority and Administrative Skills.
"For completeness," he tied with Franklin Pierce, and below them were Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan.

Just above him and Pierce was William Henry Harrison, whose main contribution to the office was promptly dying.
Many folks disliked Buchanan as President, including Buchanan. While Trump was refusing to concede, as early as 1859 Buchanan was saying, get me the hell out of here.

I can see how William Henry Harrison would do better than Trump. His short term gave us the fun little slogan, Tippecanoe and Tyler Too. Granted Tyler fared no better than Harrison in the rankings so the slogan is not helping but it is a fun little diddy.

Some recent presidents get a little rehabilitated as they get further from their office. Obama, Clinton, and Bush have all moved up a bit over the years. I don't see the same with Trump. Had his term ended before 2020, he might have had some room to get bumped up a bit but all of his actions in 2020 cratered his presidency.

Expand the poll out to include World Leaders and he ranks somewhere between Caligula and Hitler. That little sweet spot once held exclusively by Pol Pot.

Not as many stiffs, but Bill Barr was worse than Caligula's horse.

Bonus Trivia, his real name was not Caligula, it was a childhood nickname that means "small boots" which we can match to TFG's "small hands" :rotflmao:

I saw a TV special once by Tony Robinson that tried to put a different spin on Caligula, pointing out that a lot of the lurid stories were written after his death by the people who Caligula humiliated and who had him killed, and pointing out that the people rioted when he Caligula as killed as he was actually quite popular. He did some weird stuff (like standing in the Roman Gods gallery in the temple so people would worship him) and he had a horrible and cruel sense of humour, but in context what he is proven to have done was understandable to a degree. Such as when the Armies refused to invade Britain on his orders and in a rage he told them to gather seashells as that was their fucking War booty. The stories removed the context and made it seem he told them to do it at random as proof of his madness. This after Caligula had gone on a Campaign with the legions in Germany to get the army on side, and the Seashell incident screwed up all that work.

It has to be said that one time while he stood pretending to be a Gods statue, a tradesman came up to him and told Caligula he was making an idiot of himself. Caligula just laughed.

Basically Caligula saw through the hipocracy of Romans when they went off on a huge wail when he got sick at the end of their first year, and as a result he set about humiliating people who thought they were important. Unfortunately that's where the cruel sense of humour got involved, and he literally pissed off everyone close to him and especially the head of the Praetorian guard, the people there to protect him. That cost him his life.

Its a bit like everyone thinks King Richard the third was a monster based on Shakespeare's play.

Anyhow, back on topic, Donnie is now so desperate for attention and someone to mouth off to that he is giving interviews to podcasters with 160k subscribers. This interview has a massive 36,000 views on youtube. I ran across it by sheer accident.

Good points about both Caligula and Richard IIII, two rulers that history has screwed.

But I love Shakespeare and Caligula was the first full on porn I ever watched.

I can only hope that history is as cruel to Trump as its been to them.

Trump's Florida rally on despite report that DeSantis wants it canceled
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... -NLETTER01
Whether Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis approves or not, former President Donald Trump is going through with his rally Saturday in Sarasota.

The conservative Washington Examiner reported Wednesday that the office of the Republican governor, who has been immersed in the aftermath of the Surfside building collapse, made a "direct plea" to Trump's team to cancel the rally.

But Florida GOP Executive Director Helen Aguirre Ferré, who previously served as DeSantis' communications director, said the rally is going forward as planned. DeSantis' campaign for the governor's post got a major boost when Trump endorsed him in 2018 and the two have remained political allies.

The governor's very glad that the president is holding the rally in Sarasota and that it’s going to be about celebrating the birth of our nation," Aguirre Ferré said. "No, he doesn’t want the president to cancel.”
So which is it?

Former President Donald Trump's Sarasota rally scheduled for Saturday is moving ahead despite a report that Gov. Ron DeSantis' office asked for the event to be postponed while the governor responds to the mass casualty event in Surfside.

A report published Wednesday in the conservative Washington Examiner says the governor's office made a "direct plea" to Trump's team to cancel the rally, citing unnamed sources.

The governor's office put out a statement Wednesday denying that DeSantis wants to postpone the rally, and GOP officials said the rally is going forward as planned.

Trump spokesperson Liz Harrington noted the Sarasota rally is a significant distance from Surfside and said it won't interfere with the disaster response.

"Like all Americans, President Trump sends his deepest condolences to those who've lost loved ones or been displaced by the terrible tragedy in Surfside," Harrington said. "The event in Sarasota, however, is on the other side of the state, 3 1/2 hours away, approximately the same distance from Boston to New York, and will not impact any of the recovery efforts. In fact, President Trump has instructed his team to collect relief aid for Surfside families both online and on-site at the Sarasota rally."
I hope someone follows up on that money trail.

Is this sort of contest even legal? Most entities are prohibited from gambling. Churches are allowed to have bingo games, licensed casinos are allowed to run games of chance, and charities can hold raffles in return for a donation.

It is my understanding that the reason McDonalds and other for-profit organizations always have fine print that says "No purchase necessary" to enter their contests, is that to require a purchase would turn it into an illegal game of chance. Absent a purchase, it is simply a promotional give-away. Are political campaigns and SuperPacs exempt from these rules.

Not that TFG pays much attention to rules.

While this donation page works the same as Trump's (both on winred.com), this contest is sponsored by the NRSC and not Trump's pac. It's more annoying to me the "additional donation" checkbox preselected which deducts the same amount a few days after the first donation. Trump's donor page does the same shady thing.

I've received several fundraising emails from Trump in the last 24 hours:
  • OFFICIAL NOTICE From: "Trump Wall Defense Task Force"
  • Our FEC End-of-Quarter Fundraising Goal From: "Team Trump"
  • Invitation Attached From: "Meet President Trump"
  • President Trump heads to the Southern Border Today From: "Border Watch (via RNC)"
  • Hydroxychloroquine works From: "Donald J. Trump"
Nothing regarding Surfside, in any of the RNC or Trump emails I've received this week.
Not saying they are full of shit... But they're full of shit. It's a lot easier to validate the money trail when... There isn't one.

Team Trump quietly launches new social media platform
Former President Donald Trump’s team quietly launched a new social media platform on Thursday, billing it as an alternative to Big Tech sites.

The platform, called GETTR, advertised its mission statement as “fighting cancel culture, promoting common sense, defending free speech, challenging social media monopolies, and creating a true marketplace of ideas.”

Trump’s former spokesman, Jason Miller, is leading the platform. A person familiar described the site as similar to Twitter.

Trump’s involvement with the project is unclear as is whether or not he will set up an account on GETTR and use it, though his proximity to Miller suggests that this may be the latest attempt to get him back in the churn of social media.
