For Tesla’s futuristic new Cybertruck, a fourth recall

Tesla is recalling its futuristic new Cybertruck pickup for the fourth time in the U.S. to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail.

Tesla has recalled the stainless steel-clad Cybertruck four times since it went on sale Nov. 30.

The new recalls, announced in documents posted Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, each affect more than 11,000 trucks.

The company says in the documents that the front windshield wiper motor controller can stop working because it’s getting too much electrical current. A wiper that fails can cut visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The Austin, Texas, company says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem.

Tesla will replace the wiper motor at no cost to owners, who will be notified by letter on Aug. 18.

In the other recall, a trim piece along the truck bed can come loose and fly off, creating a hazard for other motorists.

Tesla says in documents that the trim piece is installed with adhesive, and that may not have been done properly at the factory.

The company will replace or rework the trim piece so it stays on. Owners will be notified by letter also on Aug. 18.

Over the weekend, the controversial billionaire confirmed that he had welcomed his 12th child earlier this year, his third with one of his Neuralink Corp. employees, Shivon Zilis. News came shortly after the Wall Street Journal reported that a former SpaceX employee had to reject multiple alleged requests from the Tesla founder "to have his babies" during her time working for him.

The X owner's affinity for having a big family is no secret; in 2022, after it was revealed he had privately welcomed his first children with Shivon, he tweeted: "Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far."

And though news of his 12th baby — whose name or sex have not been disclosed — nonetheless came as a surprise to many, he maintained to Page Six that he didn't "secretly" welcome them. "As for 'secretly fathered,' that is also false," he said, noting: "All our friends and family know. Failure to issue a press release, which would be bizarre, does not mean 'secret.'"

In November 2021, Zilis and Musk secretly welcomed twins, Strider and Azure, in Austin, Texas. The twins arrived just weeks before Musk welcomed a child via surrogate with his then-partner, Grimes.
