Yesterday after a lovely morning where our congregation could sing for the first time (masked of course), I found that the Science Channel was playing a bunch of Mythbuster episodes. A thoroughly wonderful day.

Today, I am updating my car maps after a few missteps (like them providing the wrong serial number). The booklet said 45 minutes, the car device said 71. I am nearing 90 and it still has a ways to go. Ugh.

I had been on this very stretch of roadway maybe an hour before this happened. Glad I'm home, traffic in the south end is gonna suck for hours.

My gawd. I have a few thoughts. My mother took Thalidomide while pregnant with me for morning sickness. I was spared the horrific side effects. But I know two people, unrelated, who were seriously disabled.

It is sickening that pharmaceutical companies often escape the financial responsibility for the harm they cause.

Thank you for sharing this.

Oh, right at the start of rush hour traffic, too.

Got a call today, out of the blue, to work costumes on a movie that's filming locally. Based on the contact they sent me, the 14 days guaranteed will pay for Aidan's wedding in Oct. There's an additional 14 days "as negotiated" in case shooting runs long too. I've pretty much stopped taking costume work unless it's local so I'm happy for this gig. It's something about Marine basic training so the costume work will mostly be alterations of real uniforms. Easy peasy work for $30/hour. I'll take it!

An intro from a dismissal in the DC Federal Court today (nobody we no... just dropped here for the amusing introduction).
MEMORANDUM OPINION
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Pro se Plaintiff Yomikalan-Tashasha-June’ Walker disagrees and, consequently, has filed suit here in Washington, D.C., for actions stemming from her arrest in Las Vegas. See ECF No. 1 (Compl.), ¶¶ 1, 3, 7–13. Apparently subscribing to the old adage, several Defendants now file a Motion to Dismiss for improper venue. See ECF No. 11 (Def. Mot. to Dismiss). The Court sides with them and will dismiss the suit.
I was going to leave it at that, but I started reading more when I came to:
The circumstances forming the basis of this suit are far from clear, but a rough mosaic can be pieced together with the help of some of Defendants’ Motions. The story seems to be...
Does Judge school teach that, to figure out what a plaintiff is actually asking for, get help from the defendants' motions.

Oh yeah, and her arrest happened in Nevada but on an amended complaint, she added defendants in Texas. Actually, they are LEOs in Texas which she blames for her November 2020 Nevada arrest because they arrested 2 of her compatriots in Texas, in 2019.

Jail or fine? If fined, he'll merely pay it with someone else's money.

It might be jail *and* fine, but it will definitely be jail. The bottom end of the guideline range is 108 months. Even if the judge departs downward, he’s not going from 108 to zero.

If he goes away, I won't be able to read more Tweets from him. Oh wait, he stopped posting with the conviction and he blocked me anyway.

Well I hope Foggy enjoys my contribution to the NC state budget.

I overnighted in Charlotte/Northlake NC on my way from PBC, FL to Carlisle, PA.
When I got in the car at the hotel this morning, I was greeted by a lot of festive red in the instrument cluster saying my tires were waaaay hurting.

Apparently some asshole contractor lost some of his nails on some interstate highway.

Net is that I was blessed to be able to leave about $850 (including SALES TAX) at Discount Tire. Who I have to give massive kudos to, they offered to do the minimum to get me on the road, but I know the vehicle (Jeep with QDII) and I know that just replacing two tires is gonna tear up the transfer case. And this is the start of a long trip to New England and back. They pulled in an expired rebate and pulled in a couple other discounts, and saved me about $250.

They opened at 8am, I was on the road again at 8:45.

And it turns out that their furthest-south shop is right around the corner from home in Wellington FL, so they now have a new customer.

He got 30 months when the low end of the scale was 108 months? Or am I confused on that?

I do think our legal system is a little (in many cases a whole lot) on the high side in terms of sentencing anyway. He will never practice law again, most likely. I'm not sure if there is an opportunity to even redeem yourself and earn back the right to practice law again. So he's definitely screwed himself.

Good for him, but still somewhat ridiculous. Midwest auto towns are lightly peppered with similar home properties surrounded by factories. I can think of two in Lansing MI alone.

You’re not confused. I think the judge was trying to bench-slap the government for not charging Geragos when he was at least equally culpable.
