There are plenty of competent criminal defense attorneys in NYC who started out with the NYCPD. Murray apparently has an active criminal defense practice, and his website lists some successful results for felony trials. https://jmurray-law.com/testimonials
I would guess Murray knows his way around Queens Supreme better than EDNY, and I would be surprised if he knows anything about federal election law. Santos would probably be better off with a lawyer who wasn't a fellow MAGAt, but Murray doesn't seem to be a clown and he's probably competent to recommend that Santos get what crumbs are available from an early plea deal. Of course, since he's a MAGAt, maybe he'll urge his client to fight all the way to the Supreme Court.
I said it before but sometimes folks here are more interested in screaming outrage than paying attention to the facts so I will say it again.
Only 2 representatives have been expelled from Congress since the civil war. Traficant was not expelled until after conviction and I think the other one was close to a conviction (and the timing was on top of the election which he lost anyway).
While I would prefer they get a backbone and find a way to get him to quit now, I also won't be screaming how awful the right is because they are actually following the normal tradition.
Facts first, then outrage. If not, we are no better than the right. We then live only for the anger.
This schmuck lied about every aspect of his life as he ran for office, and has admitted it. McCarthy may not be his boss, but he is the leader of the place where Santos works. A fair comparison is a company that hires a guy who also turns out to have lied in every sentence of his CV. And don't give me, "the people elected him; they're the ones who hired him." Bullshit. The people of his district have no recourse till the next election. This is on McCarthy.
I don't give a crap about the criminal investigations (okay I do, because I want him in jail), but the Santos problem would exist if he wasn't also a criminal. He has no business being in Congress, and the fact that he squats there has everything to do with the corruption of the neo-Republican cult.
I agree with Northland that we must be careful not to turn into the same people we decry on this site. We must maintain the presumption of innocence regarding the crimes that Santos has been accused of.
OTOH, I also agree with Portia, that, even without the criminal charges, he has provided ample proof, by his own admission, that he has no place in Congress. It is a sad commentary on how low the "party of family values" has fallen.
When democratic congressman Anthony Weiner was found to have sent naughty pictures of himself, which is not a crime, Nancy Pelosi personally forced him to resign. Santos admitted pecadillos are far worse.
Yeah. I've voted for republicans before. I remember I voted for one for County Executive twice, and he was a good guy. I heard him speaking a few years ago, and I was horrified how far down he had fallen. He was about as crazy as any MAGA I've seen or heard. No more benefit of the doubt for me.

Naysa Woomer, the communications director for embattled Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), has resigned, Scripps News has learned.
The departure of Woomer, a prominent Republican communications adviser, is the latest in a string of bad news for Santos, who was indicted on 13 counts, including fraud and money laundering, last week by Department of Justice officials.
Woomer previously worked for GOP Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker and Reps. Ryan Costello, Thomas Massie, and Tim Huelskamp.
"With respect for my colleagues, the people of New York, and most importantly, myself, I am honored to tender my resignation," Woomer said in her resignation email.
Woomer said of the departure — appearing to direct the comment toward Santos — "Unfortunately, you never took one point of professional advice given."

@ariehkovler
This is shitty, unprofessional behaviour. You went to work as Comms Director for George fucking Santos. You knew what the gig was. Don't shit on your client in public on your way out the door to try and salvage your own reputation.

George Santos’s listed treasurer Andrew Olson hasn't been identified as a treasurer to any political committee outside of Santos's.

He was feeling Olson-ish.
I have recently discovered that my cat KittyBear has been sleeping in the closet amongst my shoes. I had wondered what was disturbing my careful arrangements, I usually try to wear a matching pair.
