White male fragility. She's talking about white male fragility.

The loudest voices calling for Biden to step aside - Bill Kristol, the Pod Save bros, Charlie Sykes, Tim Miller, David Corn, Tom Nichols, Steve Schmidt - they all have something in common. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
Some of them I listen to on the regular. They are looking at it from the perspective of an opposition campaign staff. I think they will be proven wrong and most of them would be willing to admit it if they are. All of them will vote for Biden if he is on the ballot.

So basically what they're all saying is that Biden sucks at the annual Festivus feats of strength competition? Why else would they keep harping on his stamina?

I've listened to the arguments of most of the ex-GOP operatives who say that Biden must step down for the good of the country.
Their bottom line is they want fuckhead to lose, whatever it takes. I think they would end marriage equality, Medicare, and SSI if it meant a guarantee he would lose. This has always been, IMHO, a point of difference between the two major parties as they used to be.
They mostly don't want Kamala either. They are urgent, panicky, and pretty unconvincing, because they don't get very far past the "he should resign" moment to think of the ramifications. Miller, who is okay with Kamala, at least, brought up the issue of "how can you bypass the first Black woman VP"? The response from Sarah Longwell (whom I adore) was "she's not that popular with the Black community; I don't think it would be a big deal.
As always here, after the fall, it's astonishing how the chattering class completely ignores those of us who don't storm Capitols or threaten judges or y'know, break the law in big ways.
IMO, they stand for nothing. They see the problem (as do i and everyone here) about the fall of democracy, but the include ways to stop it that are amoral, racist, and in no way even close to guaranteed to succeed.

Sarah Longwell is one of several who does focus groups. There is a small segment of voters who will flip from Biden to Trump and vice-versa. But in general, they are not in sync with the punditry about the debate. The hard Trump supporters are sticking with Trump, others include former Trump voters who do not like either choice and the debate made that worse, but they will not vote Trump. Some of them are going to Biden due to Trump assholery and lying during the debate, plus how the media is now treating Biden. So in a weird way, this debate may turn out to be be a net gain for Biden.

That tracks with every focus group I’ve seen. Which is like three. I’ve seen three focus groups.
My favorite was the Univision one. ALL the undecided there flipped to Biden after watching the debate. Perhaps something to do with “Black and Hispanic jobs,” but what do I know?

I think the campaign could have shut down a lot of the editorials and some of the pundits if they wanted to, but they let it go for a few days. If nothing else, it provides a nice contrast against all the Steves and all the Millers coming out to say Trump is the best debater of all time and even the golf pros can't beat him on the course.

Eh? Um... after the decades of Media bullshit and Benggghhhhaaaaazzzzziiiii and Fast and furious and Bernie Sanders and Butter Emails, how are you thinking that the Campaign could have snapped its fingers and stopped all this "just asking the question"???
Is this more blaming the victim for just not telling them to stop hard enough?

Weekend at Bernie’s that shit. I don’t care.
Good thing Biden is actually a good candidate though.

Missed the poll, but I am of the opinion that President Biden should drop out now and pass the torch to Hakeem Jeffries, Pete Buttigieg, or Gavin Newsom. Or possibly Vice-President Harris, but I would be nervous about her polling.
A ticket with her at the top could include one of the other three as VP.

The delegates are not bound if President Biden bows out.
If President Biden were to announce he is dropping out, and urge all Democrats to rally behind, say, Vice President Harris, and starts making public appearances with that candidate, I find it likely that President Biden's choice would emerge as the nominee.
The more I think about it... Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg.

Those discussions would have been great a year ago, but now the voters have decided that Biden is going to be our standard bearer and we need to get behind him in order to defeat tfg. Where were all these people when Biden was getting 85%+ of the vote in primaries across the fruited plain?

Because he was the incumbent, of course he was going to be the nominee.
That's how incumbency, in American political culture, generally works — at least as long as the incumbent hasn't done anything absolutely horrific that would disqualify them. In this case, President Biden has generally done a good job as President. Far better, I think, than he's been given credit for.
If Trump is re-elected, there is zero doubt that he will do his best to make himself America's first "President for LIfe," and destroy our Constitutional republic.
He came damn close last time. This time he will have the help of an entire government — including the USSC — filled with his toadies, who will unanimously back him up.
This is an existential crisis for the nation. I say we have to go with what will give us the best hope of blocking its destruction.
I love President Biden, but I no longer believe he gives us the best hope of preserving the fundamental structure of the nation.

The system is what it is. The primaries were the place to put forward a different standard bearer. We didn't. Now we're stuck with our decision, it's too late to change our horse in the middle of the race. I'm far from a Biden cheerleader, I've been against him at every chance I got and although I voted for him in 2020, I've never voted for him anywhere else. Period. But you run what you brung and it's time to get onboard and unite against the common foe.

Well, I think it's ultimately his call.
But at this point, I think he should do it, and probably put forward Vice President Harris and Pete Buttigieg as VP.
Any way we go, I think America is in pretty much of an existentially dangerous situation.

And I'm a certified Mayor Pete fanboy. But even if I thought it was a good idea, I don't see how the mechanics could work at this late date. Republicans will ratfuck the ballots and not let them on, we'll be past the deadlines in multiple states. It's just too late, and we have to boost Biden at this point, he's our man and we need to stand behind him.
