Seeing reports that after driving the Phoenix protesters back from the Capitol with tear gas, they are blocking them from leaving and kettling them into a couple block area. Things could get ugly. Er.

Arizona Senate Shut Down By Protesters

On Friday, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Arizona Senate was shut down temporarily due to protesters.

A Planned Parenthood protest began at 6 p.m. Friday at the Arizona Capitol – an hour ahead of a protest by the Phoenix Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Phoenix branch of Radical Women.

I personally know of several more groups staging protests at the Capitol tonight, plus there was just a kind of “let’s protest at the Capitol” vibe in the air after the events of today. AZ was one of the states with trigger laws, and… Well, people are unhappy.

BTW- the Senate retreated to some subterranean conference room and passed a bullshit anti-CRT bill after adjourning in the main chamber, so the protest didn’t accomplish much. Catharsis, I suppose.

Big protest in Seattle earlier.

Some forced birther got pepper sprayed, apparently, but I didn’t see any reports of real people getting injured.

Kari Lake, tfg endorsee for governor, is calling for the National Guard to be deployed.

Also, in semi-related news, I’m seeing reports that federal DHS officers were handling crowd control in LA alongside the LAPD. :confuzzled:

I’ve been seeing some basic LAPD brutality tonight, unnecessary night sticking, pushing, and that sort of thing, but this one is pretty bad.

A little more footage from when the Phoenix protesters rushed the Capitol. Mind you, though it was nine o’clock, the legislature was in session because that’s how we roll here. Passing bullshit in the middle of the night is a long standing tradition.

Julie Gunnigle is the Democrat running for Maricopa County Attorney who has pledged to not prosecute any abortion related “crimes.” They are going to try and string her up on this.

Another one, not familiar with her.

The "Clandestine Civil War Law" that phuckstick can't recall is the 14th Amendment to the Constitution and his textualist Judges would tell him it doesn't apply to state office, only Federal ones.

and phuck you DominofromAz...

I don’t know who DominofromAz is, but they blocked me for something stupid long ago. Which is terribly annoying, because AZ Senate President Karen Fann quote tweets / responds to them decently frequently. Wendy Rogers too. Who was armed and not worried about the protesters. She’ll have you know. She would have plugged every last one of them.

LAPD chose a particularly aggressive stance.

Word on the street is that there were a lot of children and pregnant women in the crowd the AZ DPS tear gassed without warning. In fact, it’s been said that the crowd primarily consisted of women and children (think teens.) Not sure how that will fit the J24 Insurrection narrative, I suppose they’ll just ignore it.

This is bullshit.

The next headline I see that says "Congressman Arrested" had better be a story about Matt Gaetz. :cussing:

The Capitol Police tweeted they were going to warn them three times and then arrest them since they were blocking a street. People immediately dumped on them, asking why they were arresting these protestors but not the rioters January 6. I didn't know there were congress critters involved, but I do get the anger when peaceful protests are put down, yet the response to the insurrection we all were warned about (well, the warning signs were there) was underpowered. That's not on the Capitol Police, but they should be aware when they put out these notices they're going to get that kind of reaction.

Things getting a little testy at a protest in WV yesterday.
The Recount @therecount wrote: Police officers aggressively arrest protesters at the West Virginia legislature after a near-total abortion ban was passed and sent to Gov. Jim Justice’s (R-WV) desk for signature.
