It's late, and I might be a bit drink addled, but I think it was on the Fogbow 1.0 that I mentioned that my father was determined that at one of his sons play a classical stringed instrument, I choose the viola. Later I choose guitar, then bass because the band I played with needed a bass player. So long story short, after a long time out of music playing, I've gotten back in, and got myself this...

She'll look even better when she has all gold hardware...

I think I'll name her Marica, In honor of Third Grandma :batting: [I'm guessing the spelling in wrong there...]

Having grown up in the Kalamazoo area, I can appreciate seeing your new instrument is a Gibson even though they left Kazoo in the 80s (and my guitar knowledge is really limited).

Sorry to hear you grew up playing viola (I grew up playing violin so I'm obligated to mock you for playing viola).

I picked up the J-LP "Cosmic Messenger" about 8 or 10 months ago, I suppose, and have played it once.

It didn't grab me like I expected. The music is fine, but there is way too little Jean-Luc Ponty in this Jean-Luc Ponty album for my expectations.

I don't expect a return to Zappa or Mahavishnu, but I do expect some virtuoso fiddle.

I expect I'll have to play it some more, digitize it for the car even, but I don't expect to see it on high rotation.

I used to be a Fender person until I went and saw Nine Inch Nails open for Bowie. It was the first time I could afford tickets up close, and I finally noticed that Trent Rezor used a Les Paul. The next week I sold my Strat and got me one.

I'll try to get a pic up of it when I've replaced the chrome with gold...

Apologies that it's not a live but lip-sync performance... generally I hate that but the dancing is good here.

There is an 'official' video of Taco's version somewhere. As with all music videos it is, of course, a lip sync, but the sound is better.

EDIT: This is the one I remember:

The version I posted is apparently from a awards show in Germany '83 -- not a music video. So crazy that people freaked over Milli Vanilli when all these other artists cannot perform live without Memorex.

Theres lots of videos of him doing this one act. I guess he's more of a dancer than a singer and the song is the framework. The success of that one song probably did him more harm than good.

At some point he was 'reduced' to doing his act in department store windows

I've been listening to Wolf Alice for a few years. Much underrated and should be getting more air time. But, they seem to be surviving as a band with new material out. They've refined their sound perhaps to appeal to a larger audience, or perhaps to explore their creative horizons. I think it's working.

I'll start with something that sounds bit more traditional, and then progress up the Rock spectrum.

The "Copper Bottom Band" appears to be the name Laurie gives to the band he puts together for his projects. It doesn't appear to have an existence beyond Hugh Laurie, and doesn't appear to have a consistent membership across those projects (I could be wrong on the last).

Whatever, I am a big fan. I have his "Let Them Talk" and "Didn't It Rain" CDs and they get a lot of play around my place.

I liked how the second guitar loosened his bass string as he played. I also liked how the slap bass and drummer mimicked the train rolling to a stop. Both very cool touches.
