New extensions, I haz them for you

#1

Post by Foggy »

So far I have added:

Birthday list on top - moves the birthday list to the top of the Board Index page, to make sure (hopefully) that we don't miss one.

Post numbers added to posts - sometimes this can be helpful, and if you click on one the link is copied to your clipboard (which means you can paste the link somewhere if you have a hankerin')

Share On - now if you think a post is important, you can share it to your Twitter, Facebook or Google+ with a click.

More are coming, including a couple that show stats (I love stats) and one that lets you take notes. I gotta figure out what that one really does.

Oh yeah, and a default avatar, so people without avatars will have one, but they'll all be the same one until you choose otherwise. Don't worry, it won't be too horrible. :eek2:

Please don't MAKE people use avatars! It gets very confusing when multiple people have the same avatar, even if it's a default.

Yeah, I got rid of the avatar extension. Moar backups before I implement anything else, in case of disaster.

Geez foggy, most of the time when I fly 50+ percent of the flight attendants are dudes!
It's been a while, back when I was driving a good Chevy car. I went to the oil change portion of my favorite car wash to get the oil and filter changed. The guy working there greets me like he's known me forever. In fact, he insisted I'd been there a bunch of times before, but I told him I'd nevah gotten my oil changed there before. He finally believed me when he punched the info into his computer. When I went to pick the car up the same guy got into a discussion about wine with me. He knew his wines pretty well, and I tentatively asked how he'd acquired such a good knowledge of wines. His response "Oh,
my other job is that I'm a flight attendant at Continental Airlines (now, sadly, United). We then figured out why I was so familiar to him.

Now if you could fix it so the longer titles don't overlay the page numbers. And set it so clicking on the large red circle would take me to the new posts.. and.. and.. and.. :)

And hovering over thread title displays first and last entry in thread (initial parts anyway).

See, I'd complain if'n you hung me with any kind of rope, new or old. And from what I understand, it's way, way worse to be hung with a new rope because you're likely to survive the hanging only to die a horrible death from suffocating, rather than the instantaneous neck-fracture death that those fancy old ropes provide.

But that's just me. YMMV.

Birthdays on top are nice. I overlooked many because I look at Recent Topics and seldom scroll to the bottom of the forum home page. On other pages I like the menu on both the top and the bottom. When I’m on my phone it takes a lot of scrolling to move back to the top from the bottom of a forum.

Both of the statistics extensions I tried broked the board. There won't be any new stats available, unfortunately.

However, there are a few that do pertain to you:

1) Auto Drafts - you'll see new buttons when you're writing a post, you can save drafts. Also, it automatically saves your post every 20 seconds in case a meteorite strikes your home while you're writing a post. Or something.

2) Notes - this one is in the Quick Links menu, should be at the top of every page, you can write your own notes, I haven't taken the time to play with this one so if there's anything cool we should know someone tell us por favor.

3) Quoted Images as Thumbnails - when you quote someone's post this should shrink any graphics in the post you quoted, since you forgotted to do that. There are no settings for this one, either it works or it doesn't and I haven't tested it.

Still no "like" button, the entire phpBB community expresses its most very sincerest regrets and apologies and stuff.

OK, on the Notes thingy, it says:
Notes you see here cannot be seen by anyone else, including administrators and moderators.
So you can't use that one. OK, you can use that one, but don't say anything mean about the poor ol' rooster who everybody loves to kick around whenever they're bored or havin' a bad day. :fingerwag:

Or the mods. Don't say mean stuff about the mods, they love you and protect you from bad things.
