Foggy wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 1:43 pm So are the Ukrainians really successfully fighting off the invasion? I'm seeing a lot of reports about individual incidents (thanks, V!), but I'm not seeing the big picture here.

If the Russians attempt to invade and conquer Ukraine and fail because the Ukrainians put up too much of a fight, Putin is going to lose his mind entirely. The whole thing is about proving how tough he is, that would devastate him.

I don't know how many resources he can pour into this thing. If he gets frustrated, can he order another 100,000 troops in? Does he get to the point where if he can't have Ukraine, nobody else can (yeah, I mean the Bomb)?

And all these Americans who backed Putin because 1) Trump did, and 2) they think he's a macho man, what happens to them if it turns out Ukrainian soldiers make Putin look weak? Because that's going to make Biden look strong, in a lot of eyes. What's Fox News gonna say, "Biden and the Ukrainians kicked Putin's ass"? Because that's not what Fox thinks is a good look.
I suspect (hope actually) that Putin knows he doesnt need the bomb. He has Chernobyl to inflict enough pain on Ukraine (which will, of course, spill over into Belarus, but at that point what does he care)

Did Putin pull a (Dick) Cheney and expect Ukranians to greet them with rose petals? Or was that Rumsfeld?

To paraphrase something I saw today somewhere...

We elected a game show host and got a clown.
Ukraine elected a comedian and got a hero.

Yeah, y'know, we had a nickname for soldiers that came out of that region, back in the day.

We called 'em Cossacks.

And Cossacks are, or were, some of the fiercest warriors that ever emerged from the depths of Asia. They were bad ass.

Maybe these Russian soldiers bit off more than they can chew.

Robert Kagan. Neoconservative piece of shit. Auditioning for a Big Role in TFG's next adminstration, a la Barr.

Not interested in discussing the merits, here; it's all about the message.

OK, time to retarget USA's nuclear weapons from China to Russia.

He's not going to nuke anything. He's a "genius" and knows better.

But, tactical nukes (short range, low yield) I'm not so sure.
