You can hear the hostage-taker on the livestream. He is currently ranting about how he doesn't like police officers and they did a lot of bad things to him in England.
He's asking the cops to get his sister on the phone.
The man clearly has a British accent. He keeps saying he didn't want to do this and apologizing for taking hostages but warning that he is willing to die.
He's telling his family member that he will die at the end of this but telling them not to cry.
Not a good sign for a peaceful resolution.

During her trial, Aafia Siddiqui demanded that the jury take DNA tests to prove that they weren't Jewish. She also sent antisemitic screeds to President Obama from prison. If the hostage-taker is indeed her brother, his target was probably chosen for a reason.

Off Topic
Background. Colleyville has lots of lower middle class neighborhoods and then some multimillion dollar homes. I mean these are some of the most fabulous homes I've ever been in. The neighborhood where our very close friends live was home to Fifty Cent and Raphael Palmero, that kind of money. Colleyville is close to DFW airport and was favored by top corporate executives who traveled a lot (back when people used to travel).

You would think that after the events of 1776 and 1812 we would know better than to let British citizens into our country.

I know, right?
Besides, real Americans would never apologize for taking hostages, that is so unAmerican!

Miami Beach PD investigating after antisemitic flyer found in several neighborhoods
The Miami Beach Police Department is investigating after an antisemitic flyer was found in several residential neighborhoods overnight.
https://www.winknews.com/2022/01/23/mia ... hborhoods/
In an abundance of caution, Miami Beach PD said it has increased patrols in neighborhoods and religious institutions as it seeks the origin of the flyer.
Surfside reported the same flyer was found throughout the town, which is why its police department will also be stepping up patrols in the community.
Bal Harbour Mayor Gabriel Groisman didn’t mince words after learning of the antisemitic flyer.
“To the garbage that distributed this anti-Semitic flyer around South Florida this weekend: Your flyers DO NOT intimidate us,” he tweeted.

Floriduh, where it is now illegal to learn about civil rights.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politi ... -rcna13183Florida school district cancels professor’s civil rights lecture over critical race theory concerns
It's an example of how the debate over critical race theory has reached public schools in Florida, with the history professor accusing Gov. Ron DeSantis of creating "a climate of fear."
A Florida school district canceled a professor’s civil rights history seminar for teachers, citing in part concerns over “critical race theory” — even though his lecture had nothing to do with the topic.
J. Michael Butler, a history professor at Flagler College in St. Augustine, was scheduled to give a presentation Saturday to Osceola County School District teachers called “The Long Civil Rights Movement,” which postulates that the civil rights movement preceded and post-dated Martin Luther King Jr. by decades.
He said that he was shocked to learn why the seminar had been canceled through an email Wednesday but that he wasn’t surprised because educators feel increasingly intimidated over teaching about race.
Less than 24 hours before Butler was informed of the cancellation, a state Senate committee advanced legislation Tuesday at the behest of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis to block public schools and private businesses from making people feel “discomfort” when they’re taught about race. DeSantis also wants to empower parents to sue schools that teach critical race theory.
“There’s a climate of fear, an atmosphere created by Gov. Ron DeSantis, that has blurred the lines between scared and opportunistic,” Butler said in a phone interview.
“The victims of this censorship are history and the truth,” Butler said. “The end game is they’re going to make teaching civil rights into ‘critical race theory,’ and it’s not.”

I prefer a more light-hearted approach:
"Do you think we can leave these flyers for you?"
"If that will make you feel better about the nightmare of being born with white skin, you poor baby, then you go right ahead."
I think that's a nice alternative.
