Found a clip of Rusty, America's Squirrel, enjoying some jazz at a Cigar Bar in Daytona. It's a really cute clip. Rusty later revealed what was really going on.

A Wildlife YouTuber Discovered This New Species of Tarantula in Thailand
The bamboo-dwelling spider is so distinct from others that it’s been declared a new genus and species

When wildlife enthusiast and YouTube star JoCho Sippawat came across an unusual spider near his home in northwestern Thailand, he knew that he'd found something special. He promptly emailed a photo of the spider to arachnologist Narin Chomphuphuang of Khon Kaen University, who helped confirm what Sippawat hoped: it was new species of tarantula.

Sippawat, whose nature-themed channel on YouTube has 2.5 million followers, first encountered the fuzzy black-and-white spider on a trip into the forest near his home in Thailand’s Tak province. After scientists collected specimens and conducted field surveys in the region in July 2020, the spider was officially declared new to science.

Sippawat and the scientists he collaborated with were surprised to find that the tarantula nests inside of bamboo stalks. The behavior has never been documented before in tarantulas, a family that includes more than 1,000 different species.

The new spider, named Taksinus bambus, is so distinct from all other known tarantulas that it has been declared a new genus and species. The team named the new tarantula after Thai king Taksin the Great, who governed Tak province in the 18th century, according to George Dvorsky for Gizmodo. The details of the recent discovery are published in the journal ZooKeys.

My heart will always have a soft spot for work horses. My family used a 4-horse team to stack hay in the summer and feed it out in the winter until I was 14.

Those Percherons are beautiful. :lovestruck:

Newly Discovered Rainfrog Named After Greta Thunberg
Researchers found the frog in a sky island in Panama.

Konrad Mebert from the State University of Santa Cruz in Brazil and Abel Batista, a researcher at Chiriquí Autonomous University in Panama led the expedition. Mebert and Batista have collaborated for more than 10 years in Panama. They’ve published eight journal articles together and described 12 new species.3

The researchers rode on horseback over muddy trails, up steep slopes to get up Mount Chucanti or Cerro Chucanti, the tallest mountain of the Majé mountain range.4

At 4,721 feet (1,439 meters), the area is cold and humid and forms what is known as a sky island. The habitat above is extremely different from the lowland tropical rainforest below. The mountain is isolated and its unusual habitat—known as a cloud forest—is the only one within about 62 miles (100 kilometers) in any direction.4

This rare cloud forest habitat has allowed species to evolve only there, which is why researchers like to look there for species discovery.4

And that’s where Mebert and Batista found Greta Thunberg’s rainfrogs (Pristimantis gretathunbergae).2

“The frogs were found in the cloud forest, sitting on vegetation, often on or in bromeliads,” Mebert tells Treehugger. Bromeliads are leafy tropical plants.

Meet 190-year-old Jonathan, the world's oldest-ever tortoise

When Jonathan the giant tortoise was born, Queen Victoria was just a teenager.

Perhaps the most famous resident of St. Helena, one of the world's remotest islands, Jonathan is this year celebrating his 190th birthday -- making him the oldest tortoise ever to live.

According to Guinness World Records, Jonathan is the oldest-ever chelonian -- a category that encompasses all turtles, terrapins and tortoises.

Thought to have been born around 1832, Jonathan was gifted to Sir William Grey-Wilson -- who later became governor -- arriving in St. Helena from the Seychelles in 1882. A further 31 governors have come and gone in the decades since.

In truth, Jonathan could even be 200 years old as nobody knows his exact age, according to Matt Joshua, head of tourism on St. Helena.

Living alongside three other giant tortoises -- David, Emma and Fred -- Jonathan's favorite foods include cabbage, cucumber, carrot, apple and other seasonal fruits.

Hollins added: "In spite of his age, Jonathan still has a good libido and is seen frequently to mate with Emma and sometimes Fred -- animals are often not particularly gender-sensitive!"
