CDC warns against travel to 22 destinations over Covid-19
In total, the CDC now lists just over 100 countries and territories at “Level 4.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday advised against travel to 22 nations and territories due to a rising number of Covid-19 cases, including for Israel, Australia, Egypt, Albania, Argentina and Uruguay.

The CDC elevated its travel recommendation to “Level Four: Very High,” telling Americans they should avoid travel to those destinations, among others.

Panama, Qatar, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Suriname, Saint Lucia and Bolivia, were also among the countries named.

In total, the CDC now lists just over 100 countries and territories at “Level 4.”

The CDC also raised another 20 countries to "Level 3: High,” including Uganda, Kuwait, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Cuba.

The last time the Kennedy Center presented its Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Donald Trump was president and the only masks in high demand were for Halloween. On Wednesday, the arts center announced that its first Twain award since Oct. 27, 2019, will go to Jon Stewart in a ceremony on April 24.

Honored for his political humor and activism, Stewart will be the 23rd recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The arts center promised a star-studded lineup for the show, which will be presented in the 2,400-seat Concert Hall. The event will be nationally televised.

“I am truly honored to receive this award. I have long admired and been influenced by the work of Mark Twain, or, as he was known by his given name, Samuel Leibowitz,” Stewart said with a dash of humor in a statement released by the arts center.

CRAIG, Colorado (AP) — In a quiet valley tucked away from Colorado’s bustling ski resorts, far from his hometown in northern Mexico, Trinidad Loya found a way to support his family’s American dream: Coal.

He, his son and grandson — all named Trinidad Loya —worked for the coal plant in Craig, Colorado, with the eldest Loya starting more than 30 years ago. The plant currently employs 180 people, paying higher salaries and bringing far more job security than most other jobs in the area.

But that’s all about to change.

The coal plant is closing, along with the mine that feeds it and has nearly 115 more employees, and all the workers will lose their jobs over the next decade, according to Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. which partially owns and operates the Craig Station.

Probably more than the bone-chilling cold, more than the snowfall after snowfall, I really hate the early sunsets of winter. So even though it's supposed to get down to -15° next week and even though it's supposed to snow - more nuisance snows than over-my-knees snows - in the next few days, I am celebrating the fact that we have gained 33 minutes of afternoon daylight in the past month. While the sun set at 4:31pm in December, today's sunset is at 5:04pm. Yay!

As I predicted, ol' Wifehorn drew a blank. Never heard the song. Never was a teenager. Never loved rock.

On the bright side, what would I have learned from someone just like me? We complete each other.

I believe I have already told y'all, on two separate occasions on the beaches of sunny SoCal I witnessed guys trying to pick up young ladies, and the lady would gladly give out her phone number, to wit: 867-530 nigh-ee-ine!

The guys walked away thinking "Score!" and the young ladies exploded in laughter.

That use to be THE great get 'em up and moving song that the Los Lasers used to play just before George Hawke came out.

I’m the same age as you and I had never heard of the song so I looked it up. It was written in 1981, released on 11/16/81.

SERIOUSLY? It was on constant rotation on every pop radio station. I am pretty sure that number is blocked in every area code.

I guess I wasn’t listening as much to the radio in my late 20s. Or maybe that song just didn’t make much of an impression on me.

Umm, I count TWO Americans who never heard the song - MN-Skeptic and ol' Wifehorn. And those are a couple of the most thoughtful and mature women in my life. As you know, MN-Skeptic is a font of quiet wisdom around these parts, and has many, many more talents than being able to recollect rock music hits. :oopsy: The same is true for ol' Wifehorn, who is a pure joy to discuss stuff with, as long as it isn't about things that were important to me in my childhood.

Luckily, my boys had me to complete their education. :boxing:

Anyway, I am not critical of those who don't know the lyrics to Jenny/867-5309. AND I put a YouTube in the Music Free For All thread for those who missed it.
