Trump is no Hoover. Hoover headed up a commission that actually saved much of Europe from starvation during and after WWI. He was a great humanitarian. Trump on the other hand is human filth.

Oh, he was Obama's real father, according to the birther morons. They had no evidence, of course.

His real father was a huge alcoholic and womanizer, a brilliant man who drank himself out of good jobs. You wouldn't claim he was your dad if you had any good alternatives. :?

But Frank Davis was a communist (they said) and a friend of Obama's grandfather. So they claimed he was the real father. There was even a movie about it.

President Biden and Texas Gov. Abbott listen to officials at the Harris County Emergency Operations Center in Houston.

Biden is visiting Houston following severe winter storms which left much of Texas without electricity and water for days.
Abbott wants more Federal money.

Abbott has over $10B in their rainy day fund, and the feds are covering this emergency at 75%.

I don't know about Houston, but here in beautiful Puget Sound, there are no shelters which accept walk-ins. Everything is by appointment, which makes it extremely difficult to adopt. Some shelters open up waiting lists for available animals, and contact you for an appointment IF the specific animal has not already been adopted by someone ahead of you on the list. Other shelters have you make an appointment first, and you just have to hope that there's a suitable animal left by the time you arrive for your appointment!

Interesting. My experience in Houston was that there were always plenty of adoptable dogs and cats available.

It's not that they aren't available, but many of them have stipulations such as 'must be only pet' or 'no other cats', which cuts down on the number available. A lot of them are also bonded pairs, so since we already have two and a half cats (George is a barn cat, but he spends most of his day inside and he is NOT allowed out after dark), we would have more than the legal limit of four animals allowed in King County.

Interesting. The shelters around here take their animals to the local pet shops and weekend festivals and art markets every weekend to try to get them adopted. They also have 'free time' (or whatever they call it) every day or weekend where anyone who wants to can come exercise the animals in the play yard. My daughter adopted her middle dog one Saturday when she went out there to play with the dogs at the City pound.

I think Petco and Petsmart still have some animals for adoption, but no art markets here, no festivals still, and our farmer's market isn't open until much later in the year. No 'free time' to exercise animals, that would be a huge liability here  .
