Re: Weather Alerts
Winter may finally show up tomorrow. We have a Winter Weather Advisory and are expected to get a dusting of 1 to 3 inches. This is the first possible measurable accumulation this year. Up in Wisconsin, they are calling for 2-4 followed by a bit of freezing rain as it starts to get warmer. Freezing rain on top of snow is just annoying.
Down here, it is supposed to rain Tuesday night so the snow will likely be gone quickly. We had thunderstorms last night.

Re: Weather Alerts
We got 2 inches or so yesterday. Another 2 inches forecast for tonight. No biggy for me but will shut the place down. I ski all the time and am very used to driving in snow but most peeps here are not. Also too, I saw a comment above somewhere about how easy it is to get the snow off the roads. Doesn't work that way here cuz they don't have the equipment to do that. Only snows once or twice a year here (and some years not at all) - makes sense that the local governments do not invest in that.
Re: Weather Alerts
Sigh. Snowing again. Just a dusting so far, but come morning when I wake up...

I've been following my friends snow adventures in CA. They now live about an hour from Truckee, but moved from New Orleans. It was 86 in New Orleans yesterday. As my friend said "I'm re-thinking my life choices."

It is always fun watching people do exactly the wrong thing in a skid.

Re: Weather Alerts
We got another 1-2 inches accumulation of powder overnight on a 2-3 inch base in the Willamette Valley. Not difficult to drive in, but highly dependent on the people you share the road with. All it takes is one putz, and the way be closed until they are cleared out. As already mentioned, and demonstrated on video, hills are particularly treacherous. Each vehicle increases the glazing on the surface until the road is impassable.
Re: Weather Alerts
Got another two inches overnight, still coming down. In the past around PNW, hasn't it been the norm that when temps get in the 20s that sucks all the moisture out of air and snow stops?
I'm passing on going back to work today, not worth getting the new snow off of my car, plus I hear our parking lot is a sheet of ice. I feel for the staff at the covid test site down the street from the office. It's an old drive through emissions test center with not much indoor shelter for staff, I mostly see them working out doors herding the drivers/cars through. Looks like they won shortened hours today and appointment only. Lots more people needing testing and can't get one...

This is good, because there was zero snow pack last season. California gets very thirsty in years with a bad Sierra snow pack.

From what I’m hearing from the mr’s boating crowd, this season’s storms have taken us out of the snow drought. Remains to be seen if the snow is sufficient to bring the state out of drought,

Re: Weather Alerts
Yeah, I went in to San Jose today & drove home the back way through the hills. The reservoirs, which were very low a month ago, are over ½ full and filling nicely; but they oughta be closer to full this time of year.
Re: Weather Alerts
Glad I was too lazy to clear last night's additional inches off my car. It was pretty much gone by 3. Ventured out to spread some pellets, and since the garbage dumpster was across a parking area snow packed from vehicle traffic, I wasn't game for hoofing it. Was worried about backing up over all that snow I brushed off yesterday, but easy sailing. Now for no snow overnight and clearer roads tomorrow.
Re: Weather Alerts
My round pen today. Still about 6-7 inches on the ground, and more on the way Thursday .Kendra wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 6:13 pm Glad I was too lazy to clear last night's additional inches off my car. Re: Weather Alerts
I wouldn't care so much, but I was off all last week, so no billing got done and no cash was posted and month end for us is officially Thursday. Boss will be cranky.

Re: Weather Alerts
Found it!
Freezing weather always brings power outages, but it's rare I get to see an aerial cable arc before it completely melts and drops.
I got to standby and guide the PUD in to this pole so they could restore service. Long day of shovel leaning, and nursing a generator waiting for the crew to arrive.

Re: Weather Alerts
How did you happen to find this? Or was it reported by some astute observer?

Re: Weather Alerts
We had a GEN RUN notification from a site several times over the last couple days with no corresponding notice from Clark Co PUD of known outages. This site has miles of poles through the trees to the top of Livingston Mtn just north of Camas. So, I fueled up the plow truck, chained up, and went for a line inspection clearing the way up there. I drove with the windows open so I can hear stuff break on the truck, and happened to hear this guy crackling from a few yards away. Noted the pole number, called it in, and then flattened the path to it better.
Re: Weather Alerts
Oh, very cool! That's a lot of snow on that pole still.bill_g wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 11:04 am So, I fueled up the plow truck, chained up, and went for a line inspection clearing the way up there. Still lots of snow here, but we had some melt yesterday. More coming later this evening and tomorrow.

Re: Weather Alerts
Dang, we have some real cold weather coming this New Year's weekend.
Friday night - New Year's Eve - it's suppose to get down to -9°. That's dang cold for the idiots out drinking. Saturday's high will be -2°, and the low that night is predicted to be -14°.
I'll be an hour south of the Cities, at my brother's, for New Year's Eve, staying overnight. Thank goodness I just got a new battery in my car!
