Re: Sugar Magnolia
So this morning when I woke up my scalp was tingling and itching. And my hair was falling out in clumps. When I showered Saturday morning for the wedding, everything was perfectly normal. I slept most of the day yesterday and decided to forego the shower, but this morning the falling hair completely covered the bottom of the shower. So, so glad I got it cut so it didn't wind up in the drain! I'm actually not too bothered at the prospect of being bald. I've never worn make-up or a bra, or had a fancy hair style and the only dress-up I do is Mardi Gras, so my appearance is real low on my list of priorities. I suspect I'll be totally bald by my second treatment next Monday.
Note to self. Dry hair LAST when showering!

My sister-in-law lost her hair this summer to chemo for pancreatic cancer. A niece crocheted a rainbow cap for her and another one with Seattle Seahawks colors which my SIL wears on Seahawk's game days. You can look to this hair loss as an opportunity to dress up your head with fun caps and hats.sugar magnolia wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 9:00 am I'm actually not too bothered at the prospect of being bald.

My mom had always had straight, fine hair that wouldn’t hold a curl. She’d wear curlers all night, take them out in the morning and within 2 minutes - FOOMPH- the curls would all disappear. She was thrilled when her hair grew back in corkscrew curls!
My sweet sister (in pink) has worn her thick, wavy hair long since high school. She rocked her post-chemo look by dying it platinum. It came out kinda marcelled

Sending good vibes to Sugar as she goes for round 2 tomorrow. May she sleep through it again and have a better course in the week ahead.

Re: Sugar Magnolia
Thanks y'all. Completely bald at this point, and my eyebrows and eyelashes are falling like snow. I think I'm supposed to meet with The Fabulous Dr. Baker this morning before the chemo and I have questions for him. My genetic testing is next week and I'll be interested to hear the results of that. So will my daughters.
After today's round, I'll be 1/3 of the way through, and halfway through by Thanksgiving. I have been receiving gifts in the mail almost daily. Hats and scarves and CBD goodies, oh my! Candles and talismans and food and advice. A cool bag that says "Cancer messed with the wrong bitch" filled with stuff for the long hours of sitting through chemo. a memory pillow with pics of my kids from a woman in Canada I've never actually met because I mentioned that I'm too short to reach the pillow on the chemo chair. I am completely overwhelmed at things people are doing for me. Yesterday at the weekly dog party the women planned out a schedule for feeding us this week.
I have all the pieces cut for a new quilt and just need to draw lines on them and pair them up, a couple of crossword books, my journal, a laptop, a new book and some knitting. Plenty to keep me busy but I'm hoping to sleep through it again and not need any entertainment. I did get new headphones so I may just put youtube on the Neville Brothers channel, turn it up and go to my happy place.
And totally unrelated to anything else, an organization I've been involved with for years (Threadhead Cultural Foundation) has just wrapped up our annual raffle and we took in over $15,000 to be used to provide grants for the culture bearers in New Orleans. This makes me very happy. I won 2 vintage silk scarves, the ones that look like advertising, in the raffle and I'm very happy about that even though I haven't been wearing any kind of head coverings so far. Being bald doesn't feel any different to me than having hair, and I've decided that it probably bothers other people seeing me bald more than it bothers me being bald, and I don't really care what other people think, so bald it is!
Two hours until lift off!
