Oh no, no need for that. It never looks like that when I go by there.

Sam is now the 18th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
The tropical storm is churning in the open Atlantic Ocean more than 1,700 miles east of the Leeward Islands. While it is still far away from land, impacts are possible early next week. More importantly, the storm is expected to quickly strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Caribbean Basin.
The official forecast shows the system becoming a hurricane on Friday and a major hurricane --Category 3 or higher -- as early as the end of the weekend.
"It is noteworthy that this is the 2nd earliest formation of the 18th named storm in the Atlantic basin, moving ahead of the 2005 hurricane season, and only trailing last year," says the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Thursday's developments were an indication that this is a very busy hurricane season and that it is far from over.

My grandpa who died at the ripe old age of 97 in 1986 use to swear by the woolly bug's predictions of the coming winter. If he was correct we’re screwed this year…. The blacker the woolly the worse the winter will be...
I saw this one today... The farmer's almanac says....

Grab Your Gloves! Fetch Your Fleece! Winter is going to be a season of flip-flop conditions with notable polar coaster swings in temperatures!
I think we're going to need more firewood...

when I lived in the midwest, we went by the height of the squirrels' nests. High in the trees meant a bad winter a'comin'.
May the bridges I burn light my way.

Re: Weather Alerts
I got my 42 year old furnace and air conditioner replaced in August. With my sister and nephew's help, my garage got cleaned out enough so that I can keep my car inside the garage. I am ready for winter! Bring it on!
Ok, hold off a bit until I can get my winter tires on my car and my snow blower tuned up for the winter. But... then Bring it on! Oh, and I think my car needs a new battery. But... then Bring it on!
Sigh... I'm almost ready for whatever winter brings.

Re: Weather Alerts
I was eating lunch at McDonald's in Minneapolis one fine day in 1985, and I overheard the four homeless gentlemen in the next booth discussing the optimal algorithm for selling their own blood. Who paid the most, what hours are they open, stuff like that. Go here first, then there.
As MN-Skeptic describes, winter in Minnesota is tough. And as I listened to those four guys, I realized, being homeless in Minnesota must be a nightmare, because that Minnesota winter is definitely trying to kill you.

I still check the caterpillars to see how thick their fur is! I haven't seen any so far, though. They are now saying there will be a La Nina, which usually means a better winter for us, but that's not what the weather people are saying, so, really, I have no clue what this winter will be. One of these days towards the end of the month, the local weather reporters will start talking about the prediction. They seem to be wrong more than right these days.
