Melissa says we should honor his bold faith in his biblical beliefs even if we have different interpretations. However,

1. I have rarely if ever, heard a right-winger accept different interpretations from others. Either you agree with them or you are an outcast and a Christian/Freedom hater (even if you are a biblical scholar). Their interpretation is the only true biblical faith.

2. I happen to be in a denomination that is far from dogmatic and very open to deep discussions on the faith. We can accept differences of opinion on many things, however, there is still the command that we call out false teachers less they lead others astray. There are differences of opinions and there are those who make their lives as false prophets (to which, ironically, my laptop wanted to change to false profits). Dr. Gibbs was a false teacher. His was not a different interpretation but heresy.

Yes, the line between interpretation and heresy is often hard to see, but, well, many of the right-wingers make it easy. I have found myself becoming bolder in calling it out than I used to be.

The RW god always seems to support the RWer in whatever s/he wishes to do anyway. The RW god in their head never says "get rid of your guns", "don't be hateful to others in my creation", "get vaccinated, it's not just safe and sensible but if protects your family", "be kind to others, whether you like them or not", "learn about how the world works", "wonder at the products of modern science". The RW god in their head always says "yeah, ok, sure, do what you want to, however hateful or stupid, be a jerk if you like, be ignorant, be a bigot, I approve, and you can tell everybody that."

Personally I prefer to live in a reality-based world, but if others want to base their ethics on myths and fables, I don't object as long as that leads them to socially responsible views and behaviors, as it largely does. The RW "christians" fail that test.

I've heard the word christianists applied to them.

Nothing says you want God's help, and people's prayers, like refusing treatment. Jesus always directed people to present themselves to the Priests to prove they were no longer lepers after he cured them.

(And people will be relieved to know I didn't read the spoiler above, because the who cares is strong with this one, along with the sick and tired of this shit.)

Boston, MA 1901:
Anti-vaccination activists in Boston responded to mandatory inoculations with a brochure entitled “Vaccination Is the Curse of Childhood.” It falsely claimed that the vaccines caused smallpox instead of preventing it, and maintained that the only real way to prevent infection was “good drainage, good ventilation, pure water and healthy food.” Anti-vaccinationists, as they were called, branded compulsory vaccination an infringement on their civil rights. And they implored parents to write to a Beacon Street address to receive physician-signed certificates that indicated their children were “unfit subjects for vaccination,” and should be exempt from the state requirement to show proof of vaccination to attend public school.

Oh I didn’t notice his wife runs the twitter account. He was baned, she has twitter.

“ Garrison told Gizmodo that he and his wife are not feeling well and that he’s completely lost his sense of taste and smell. Garrison seems to believe that he and his wife are struggling to overcome the disease because they’re in their mid-60s.

“Both Tina and I feel slightly better after two weeks, but it has been rough. I lost my taste and smell as well as desire to eat any kind of food. I lost 15 pounds as a result. Young people tend to bounce back more quickly, but we’re in our mid-60s,” Garrison wrote.”

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... ne-mandate
The Chicago mayor, Lori Lightfoot, has filed a complaint in court against Chicago’s largest police union and its president after the union issued a directive for officers to ignore a citywide mandate to report their vaccination status, the latest in a battle between government officials and first responders over vaccine mandates.

In a statement issued on Friday morning, Lightfoot announced that she had instructed the city’s law department to file a complaint for injunctive relief against the Chicago chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police union and its president, John Catanzara, for actions the mayor regarded as encouraging an illegal strike.

“As Chicago’s mayor, I cannot and will not stand idly by while the rhetoric of conspiracy theorists threatens the health and safety of Chicago’s residents and first responders,” said Lightfoot in the statement.

“President Catanzara has time and again deliberately misled our police officers by lying about the requirements of the policy and falsely claiming that there will be no repercussions if officers are insubordinate and refuse to follow a city and department directive or order.”

In response, the police union has filed a counter-suit against the city, arguing that the mayor did not properly negotiate the terms of the mandate with the union.

The sorryantivaxx guy is skeptical Laura Loomer and Ben Garrison ever had COVID. I share that skepticism.
People like Joe Rogan, Laura Loomer, and Ben Garrison come to mind, and those were clearly stunts (the latter two launched their new books during their "sickness").

It could be they were scared of losing pay and work time from having a few days in bed after the jab, which is not uncommon. That's a long way from thinking the jab is going to kill you.

The Washington Post has had quite a few stories like this.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/i ... p_dontmiss
The covid patient in Room 107 was bleeding internally and near death.

loooong :snippity:

Novotny’s family buried him on a hill in Highland Cemetery, just north of Pawnee, where a simple wooden cross marks the grave that is lit by a small solar panel and visible from the road at night. About 150 people came to the Aug. 14 graveside service, where the pastor read the 23rd Psalm.

:snippity:

She has been beating herself up a lot lately. Maybe she should have taken him to a larger hospital in Oklahoma City or Tulsa in the first place, so that he would have had access to more specialists. Maybe she should have taken him to the hospital sooner.

Not on her list of regrets: her decision not to get vaccinated.

“I just have so many questions about the shot,” she said. “I don’t know if I’m persuaded. I guess you want to say I don’t believe in it.”

There's little sympathy in the comments for these people. Lots of sympathy for the medical personnel who need to deal with them, but not for the vaccine refusers.
