Nancy Pelosi: former Speaker of the U.S. House, Nancy Patricia Pelosi; née D'Alesandro

Let's hear it for the historic Nancy Pelosi, who has made history in so many ways!

All in this together: kicking off the San Francisco premiere of #InTheHeightsMovie at #SFPride with Freddie Seipoldt, Rock Sakura and Fred Lopez.
Nancy is the ONLY woman to serve as the Speaker in U.S. history. She's in her 18th term, and has been instrumental in so much legislation it is impossible to quantify. She is second in the line of succession, after Kamala.

This is expected to be her last term as Speaker, so here is a little thread to celebrate her!

Well, at least it happened in August. Meh. Nancy's the Speaker for a reason, Gottheimer.

“A win?” Pelosi responded Tuesday when asked whether Gottheimer had scored a significant victory. “We’re not talking about a win. We’re talking about passing a rule.”
Anatomy of a power play: How 9 House Dems cut their deal with Pelosi
The speaker questioned whether the motley group of centrists got "a win." But they still celebrated the promise of a deadline for the infrastructure bill.

A "win" ??!?

another goddamn media horserace.

It is a "win" when we the people get the things that make our lives better. Anything else is just theater.

Pope Francis and Nancy Pelosi meet to discuss climate action

Erin Doherty
Sun, 10 October 2021, 12:29 am·2-min read
In this article:

Pope Francis met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday, as he urged lawmakers to overcome "the narrow confines" of partisan politics to fight climate change.

Context: Francis spoke to parliamentarians who were in Rome for a meeting before the UN's climate conference, which comes as scientists caution that the window for keeping alive the Paris Agreement's most ambitious temperature target is rapidly closing, Axios' Andrew Freedman reports.

He was slated to be the first pontiff to attend a COP, but the Vatican announced Friday that Francis does not plan to attend the summit anymore. The pope underwent intestinal surgery in July.

Of note: Francis cited a joint appeal that he and other religious leaders made this week that called on political leaders to make ambitious commitments at the climate conference, which is scheduled for Oct. 31, per the Vatican News.

"To meet this challenge, everyone has a role to play," Francis said. "That of political and government leaders is especially important, and indeed crucial."

The pope said that lawmakers' commitment to fighting climate change "will be illuminated by the two important principles of responsibility and solidarity."

"We owe this to the young, to future generations," Francis said.

What she's saying: Pelosi, a practicing Catholic, in a statement called the pope's encyclical Laudato Si,' which lays out his views on the relationship between humanity and nature, "a powerful challenge to the global community to act decisively on the climate crisis with special attention to the most vulnerable communities."

"I expressed the gratitude of those working on climate action in the Congress for the immense moral clarity and urgency that His Holiness continues to bring to the climate crisis, and how we continue to cherish his address to the Joint Session of Congress in 2015," she added.

Editor's note: This article has been updated to reflect Pelosi's meeting with the pope and comment from the House speaker.
Naturally those papers that mentioned this at all did not focus their headlines on Climate change but on another topic which had nothing to do with the meeting, starting with A.

I was going to quote it here, but screw them. Fox literally failed to mention climate action a single time. Not once. They had nice pics though. Here's the pics Nancy posted.

Here's a nice one from the article not worth quoting:

The Clintons & Obamas flank the pontiff in their photos, but TFG is the only one allowed to be pope-adjacent in his, because it's HIS papal audience, not theirs, :nope:

This pope has made veils optional.
Not a surprise there. That is in keeping with what I have come to expect from Francis. I wonder if there was a discussion about it beforehand, at least between staffers, and they decided together they wanted it this way.

No idea, but there would be no way he would be able to issue a magnanimous deceleration like that without the acquiescence of the Curia and the house staff. Besides, the dress code and Ceremonies about meeting the Pontiff have constantly changed through history. It has, in fact, been becoming less rigid since the 1980s.

This link is one of those goddam slideshows, but you can see how the style has changed over time; https://www.townandcountrymag.com/style ... ts-royals/

And, honestly, I think the Black Veils look hideous so I'm glad they are gone.

Also you will notice the only one without an uncomfortable grimace in the photo with Gropus, is Gropus himself. Its a line of angry misery with the only smile being lord false teeth himself.

Republicans want to shut down government to prevent people from getting vaccinated, and this is Pelosi's fault?

Pelosi: Pelosi will stay around to lead House Democrats through the next election -- and perhaps beyond:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi will stay until at least after the midterm elections, extending her nearly 20-year run as the House's top Democrat after she turns 82 and, perhaps, beyond.

She is planning to file and run for reelection in her San Francisco district next year -- at least for now -- in keeping with her pattern of deciding about staying in Congress after the elections, when she likely will have won an 18th full term.

And sources familiar with Pelosi's thinking say she isn't ruling out the possibility of trying to stay in leadership after 2022, despite her original vow to leave as the top House Democrat. She'll devote much of next year to raising money for Democrats as they try to hold their narrow majority, those sources tell CNN, adding to the nearly $1 billion her office calculates she has already raised for Democrats in her time as leader.

The months of tortuous negotiations over President Joe Biden's legislative initiatives are inspiring a contradictory mix of emotions. Many House Democrats are more eager than ever to see the California Democrat go and give way to younger leadership. But even many of those same lawmakers are terrified that, without her, they will be consumed by squabbling instead of fighting back against House Republicans at a moment when the fundamentals of American democracy appear to be on the line.
Pelosi had said she wouldn't seek the speakership in 2023, so running in 2022 doesn't necessarily violate her pledge.

If the Democrats lose the House, I don't think her pledge covered whether she would stay on as Minority Leader. (And, of course, she could just cite "extraordinary circumstances" and break push back her pledge.)

I don't know why I'm putting myself through this, but turned on Hannity. TFG is on the phone right now, but McCarthy was up prior and mentioned this website: https://firepelosi.com/

Tried a whois search, and it looks like there's a proxy server (or whatever it's called) and can't see who is behind it.
