I always know when the end of Summer is approaching - I get my marathon road trips in before the bad weather comes. The Gummint will pay for travel time, but not per diem. So, no motels. Just 14 hour days and 280 mile round trips to visit two hilltops to complete only the work authorized. I pack plenty of food and water. On the road by 0530 and back home around 1930.

More than three centuries after a Massachusetts woman was convicted of witchcraft and sentenced to death, she’s finally on the verge of being exonerated – thanks to a curious eighth-grade civics class.

State senator Diana DiZoglio, a Democrat from Methuen, has introduced legislation to clear the name of Elizabeth Johnson Jr, who was condemned in 1693 at the height of the Salem witch trials but never executed.

:snippity:

“It is important that we work to correct history,” DiZoglio said. “We will never be able to change what happened to these victims, but at the very least, we can set the record straight.”

If lawmakers approve the measure, Johnson will be the last accused witch to be cleared, according to Witches of Massachusetts Bay, a group devoted to the history and lore of the 17th-century witch-hunts.

I followed Nate Silver on Twitter for the stats talk.

I stayed because of a previously unsuspected addiction to watching a stats geek prove that he is out of touch with every single corner of society.

He is such a goober.

Thank you for that. I was suicidal as a preteen. I found a way forward.

My mother in law chose suicide due to Alzheimer's. I appreciate her choice. I might chose that as well.

My son lost a dear friend to suicide. He provided the eulogy. It was beautiful and very painful.

We need to talk openly about this.

Cool!

After some seriously quantum something something cogitation and stuff, I have decided to call everyone else "citizen". Uncapitalized, we're not excessively formal here.

This will probably be most effective in regards to the kittehs.

"Would you like some breakfast, citizen?"

"Meow."

I'm anticipating an uptick in morale. Kittehs like to be taken seriously. 🐈
