Too bad she and her husband weren't thinking of their children when they decided against getting vaccinated.

Mississippi Gov. Refuses School Mask Mandates, Compares Covid-19 in Kids to ‘Sniffles’
“If you look at those individuals under the age of 12, what you find is that it is very rare that kids under the age of 12 have anything other than the sniffles,” the governor said
By PETER WADE
Less than 24 hours after Mississippi’s Republican Gov. Tate Reeves tried to dismiss the threat that Covid-19 poses to children, an eighth-grader in the state died from complications due to the virus.
“If you look at those individuals under the age of 12, what you find is that it is very rare that kids under the age of 12 have anything other than the sniffles. Does it happen from time to time? Sure it does,” Reeves said at a news conference on Friday. Over the weekend, the U.S. hit a record high number of children hospitalized with Covid-19, as the Delta variant appears to affect younger people more severely than earlier versions of the virus.

You really, really should. I'm in Lane county. I would only go to rural OR for urgent reasons.
If you need hospitalization, you'll most likely go to Riverbend hospital in Springfield. A nurse told me last week that the ICU is packed ... with covid patients.
I'll put it this way. Our Gov has called in the national guard

Had a feeling this was coming, thanks to the jerks who won't vaccinate and take advantage of the honor system and won't wear a mask indoors (I'm pointing at three asshole coworkers right now).
We are also instituting a statewide indoor mask mandate to all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. We have seen over the last year how widespread masking also saves lives by reducing infection.

I like it when posters start the posts in this thread with the name of the state.

US President Joe Biden says his administration will require nursing home staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19, or those facilities will miss out on federal funding.
Key points:
US nursing home staff will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19, Mr Biden says
His administration continues to look for ways to mandate vaccinations
Coronavirus booster shots will soon be available in the US

I also had a feeling that was coming (in Washington state). I've been voluntarily masking up indoors for a few weeks and limiting my indoor exposure.

Re: COVID-19 and the States
An Alabama doctor watched patients reject the coronavirus vaccine. Now he’s refusing to treat them.
Asking nicely hasn't worked out so well. Perhaps this sort of thing will.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2 ... CBBzulT1BQIn Alabama, where the nation’s lowest vaccination rate has helped push the state closer to a record number of hospitalizations, a physician has sent a clear message to his patients: Don’t come in for medical treatment if you are unvaccinated.
Jason Valentine, a physician at Diagnostic and Medical Clinic Infirmary Health in Mobile, Ala., posted a photo on Facebook this week of him pointing to a sign taped to a door informing patients of his new policy coming Oct. 1.
“Dr. Valentine will no longer see patients that are not vaccinated against covid-19,” the sign reads.

Oct 1 seems like a long ways away considering the rates of infection now.
May the bridges I burn light my way.

That was my initial reaction. But perhaps it is a strategy to allow his patients time to receive both shots and reach full effectiveness.Slim Cognito wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 10:55 am Oct 1 seems like a long ways away considering the rates of infection now.

Re: COVID-19 and the States
My wonderful young dentist told me yesterday that he'd had a nightmare the other night that he'd contracted COVID. He woke up in a cold sweat. Of course he's vaccinated and even gives out KN95s to his patients. He also gets a lot of BS from the northern spreadnecks so his stress is mounting too.

Re: COVID-19 and the States
It's not like other states are having surplus staff this time around. Health care workers can work "at home", no need to relocate. Last year the east coast could pull resources from other parts of the country that were not yet battling the pandemic.Volkonski wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 1:42 pm https:// twitter.com/abc13houston/status/1428411463316774914ABC13 Houston @abc13houston
A count shows that the actual number of staff coming to the state is five times less than what it needs.
Texas needs 13,000 extra hospital personnel, but it'll get just 2,500
