The former impotus used the army for similar tasks, they were assigned "back office" and infrastructural duties to free the real cops confronting the migrants.

Screw the Guard members. Screw the State Policemen. Y'all are going to the border to further my political ambitions and I don't give a flying fornication about you or your families - or the taxpayers.

I had no idea you could privately fund military stuff. Do you pay them directly or pay the state or what?
Around here, we can't even donate food cards to the cops at Christmas unless we provide one for every officer in the city, not just in our precinct.
(How long before someone discovers that the "private funding" "didn't come through" so the state picked up the tab?)

The State pays the Guardsmen just like they would for a "natural disaster". Their orders and benefits, along with their military channels for pay, benefits, rules of engagement, etc are intact and legal. Said GOP Moneybags makes a "donation" to the S. Dakota treasury that covers the state's payments (Cha-Ching), and the state can then use the funds in any manner they see fit - to include the S. Dakota National Guard, i.e. Army Emergency Relief funds, etc.

The worst part is I don't think he is kidding. Freedom chicken!
It’s disappointing to hear some ND students and faculty want to ban Chick-fil-A from doing business on campus because they disagree with the values held by the Chick-fil-A founders.
What a dangerous precedent to set.
Replying to
@LindseyGrahamSC
and
@NotreDame
I want everyone in South Carolina and across America to know I have Chick fil-A’s back.
I hope we don’t have to, but I will go to war for the principles Chick fil-A stands for.
Great food.
Great service.
Great values.
God bless Chick fil-A!

LIndsey, he who has lived his entire lifetime in a glass closet. No, he is not kidding, even if it sounds like a joke to everyone else.
If the Chick-fil--A charitable wing made a sizeable contribution to not hurt young LGBTQ+ persons (Trevor Project would be a good start), they'd increase their bottom line. I'd probably stop in (and it's been about 10 years).

Pa. GOP gubernatorial candidate had motorcycle wedged into his car grill in fatal crash: witness

Edited to fix formatting. In an interview Friday, Forgette said the first thing he noticed were sparks coming off a car that was traveling at a high rate of speed in the westbound lanes of the turnpike. He and members of his construction crew who were with him were dumbstruck, he said.
“Everyone was in disbelief,” he said. “That is not something you see every day. It was a big motorcycle, too. There were a bunch of sparks. And it was very loud.”
Forgette, who works for a traffic control company in Pottstown, said the car’s driver was pulled over by State Police several miles down from where he first saw him. He said the driver was sitting on a guardrail, stone-faced and “kind of disconnected.”
[Charlie] Gerow, a longtime Republican strategist based in Harrisburg, announced his run for governor last month, saying he’s a “coalition builder” who can unite the GOP and expand its appeal as a Latino immigrant who found opportunity in the United States.

Can't find a Pompeo thread, so here it goes.

The State Department is investigating the whereabouts of a $5,800 bottle of whiskey the Japanese government gave to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in 2019, according to two people briefed on the inquiry and a document made public on Wednesday.
It was unclear whether Mr. Pompeo ever received the gift, as he was traveling in Saudi Arabia on June 24, 2019, the day that Japanese officials gave it to the State Department, according to a department filing on Wednesday in the Federal Register documenting gifts that senior American officials received in 2019. Such officials are often insulated by staff members who receive gifts and messages for them.
American officials can keep gifts that are less than $390. But if the officials want to keep gifts that are over that price, they must purchase them. According to the filing, the State Department said the bottle was appraised at $5,800.
The department also took the unusual step of noting that the whereabouts of the whiskey is unknown. Similar filings over the past two decades make no mention of any similar investigations.

LINCOLN — Signature gathering began Thursday on a petition aimed at requiring Nebraskans to show photo identification before voting.
Citizens for Voter ID made the announcement while unveiling the text of their proposed constitutional amendment.
If passed, the measure would require that qualified voters present "valid photographic identification" before casting a ballot in any election "to ensure the preservation of an individual’s rights under this Constitution and the Constitution of the United States."
The proposal leaves specifics to be developed by the Legislature, including what would be considered a valid identification. Lawmakers also would have to determine how the requirement could be fulfilled for people voting by mail and how to provide free IDs for those who do not have them, as required by past court decisions.

GOP Cash Machine’s Behavior Is ‘Nothing Short of Scandalous’
“I can’t think of any mechanism or loophole that would permit this. Really,” said former FEC Commissioner Ann Ravel.

WinRed PAC, the for-profit Republican fundraising juggernaut, raised more than $2.24 billion for GOP campaigns and committees in the 2020 election. But somehow, that gargantuan undertaking appears to have cost the PAC almost nothing.
As the old saw goes, it takes money to make money. According to the 13 campaign finance experts interviewed for this article, WinRed has not disclosed possibly tens of millions of dollars in PAC expenses. In doing so, WinRed, which Republican leaders forced on campaigns in the 2020 election, has kept secret the identities of the people and firms who work for it and provide its services. According to these experts, based on WinRed’s disclosures, the PAC appears to have potentially crossed the blurry lines of federal campaign finance laws.

Former FEC commissioner Ann Ravel reviewed WinRed’s filings, and called them “absurd” and “nothing short of scandalous.”
“I can’t think of any mechanism or loophole that would permit this. Really.” Ravel, who stepped down from the agency in 2017, told The Daily Beast. “It has the appearance of being, if not outright fraudulent, at least not complying with the intent of disclosure laws. On its face that’s what any reasonable federal auditor would think.”
“This isn’t like anything we’ve seen on this scale,” Jordan Libowitz, communications director for government watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), told The Daily Beast upon CREW’s extensive legal review of the disclosures. “With the publicly available information we have, it appears potentially illegal.”

The GOP groups of two Wyoming counties have both voted to no longer recognize Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as a member of the Republican Party, the latest moves against the congresswoman months after she voted to impeach former President Trump.
Martin Kimmet, the chairman of the Park County Republicans, wrote in a Thursday letter to Cheney, “You will no longer be recognized as the official Republican Congressional Representative by the Park County Republican Party,” according to the Casper Star-Tribune.
The Carbon County Republicans followed this move by voting unanimously to back a formal resolution denouncing Cheney.

Lazzaro, an occasional Fox News guest who flaunted his wealthy lifestyle on social media, was indicted on five counts of sex trafficking of a minor, one count of attempting to do so, and three counts of obstruction of justice. The FBI confirmed its agents had arrested Lazzaro in Minneapolis this morning. And the indictment was unsealed in federal court Thursday afternoon during his initial appearance in federal court in St. Paul, Minnesota, which took place over a video conference.
