Next time any of you is binging on Adam 12, and I forget which season, keep an eye out for her on an episode with her and Office Reed and busting the bad drug guys.Leslie Charleson, who played Dr. Monica Quartermaine on “General Hospital” for nearly half a century, has died, according to the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini. She was 79.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, @lesliecharleson,” he wrote in a thread on X on Jan. 12.
“Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on @GeneralHospital alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaine family, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew,” he continued. “I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit and incredible presence on set.
“On behalf of everyone at #GeneralHospital, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time,” he concluded.

I was coming to post about Ms. Q.
She was a doctor on General Hospital. Years ago she had a huge impact on women getting mammograms as she had a very large story on her breast cancer.

I remember first seeing Leslie on TV when she played Iris Donnelly on the soap opera Love Is A Many Splendored Thing, which my mom watched.

And lest we forget, her onscreen husband on GH, Stuart Damon, played Prince Charming on Cinderella with Leslie a new Warren.

I enjoyed a few of his works.
There's a lesser-known dark side to David Lynch: he's big into Transcendental Meditation and spent an immense amount of money trying to get TM classes into public schools. In 2022, he announced an initiative to try and raise $500 million to pay for TM courses (money that would go to the organization instead of merely making TM classes free).
Being "into" TM doesn't sound like much of a problem until you realize that TM is a cult at the high levels. Something like 98% of the people who take one or two basic TM classes walk away and have nothing to do with the organization after that. That amounts to several million people over the last 50 years. That's not the cult.
The cultic part is the several tens of thousands of people who devote countless hours over decades on trying to achieve "yogic flying," the purported ability to levitate... Unfortunately, all the photos of people "flying" are merely from learing to "hop" by flopping your legs while in Lotus position. An unachievable quest is typically a hallmark of a cult because it sucks up all your attention and makes you feel bad about yourself when you fail, and then turn to more of the cult's "secret sauce" to try and succeed next time.
I've only given one example of cult-like aspects of TM practices. There are many behaviors that it takes to make an organization into a cult. Widely used inventories to score how cult-like an organization may be include Jay Lifton's 12 criteria or Steve Hassan's BITE model (Behavior, Information, Thought and Emotion). According to experts in the cultic studies field, when scored against a broad inventory, the inner circles of TM definitely qualify as a cult.
TM is much quieter than combative, pugnacious organizations like Scientology, and its "product" is simpler and more directly practical than Scientology's baroque "technology" and the underlying paranoid flying saucer cult beliefs (Xenu, etc.). Thus, it doesn't get the attention from late night comics for ridicule or from human rights activists like Scientology does.
