Glenn Miller came up in another topic. Here is a different Glenn Miller. He is a basso profondo, though he is also an organist and choir director. The music is by the conductor, Benedict Sheehan. He does some really wonderful stuff.

In case folks don't make it to the music free-for-all thread, I am posting a link to a post by our European about a Gregorian Chant app, FYI.

I suppose I could start going on about the actual history of Gregorian and Old Roman chant along with opinions on what it actually sounded like and other myths. In any case, while the style we hear is from the Solesmes Abbey in the 19th Century, it is beautiful and moving.

northland (and anyone else interested) at this link you can download a pdf of the program for the funeral for President Carter. It lists all the organ pieces and other music and musicians. Scroll down just a bit to right above the video and it'll say Download Service Program (pdf).

https://cathedral.org/about/state-funeral/

I was watching on their website, but they cut away before the bell peal started.

Because I am a liturgy geek, of course, I checked the bulletin before it stated. I only caught parts as I was busy with my day job. The organist did a great job with the improvisation after the last hymn. I could in his face the expression I have had before... Come On!!! Get in place already!!! Let me finally end this improv!!!

I am going to try and go back and listen to more.

In the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, the appointed psalm for Morning Prayer today is Psalm 37:1-18. Seems rather appropriate this week as well.
Psalm 37:1-2 (NRSV wrote:1 Do not fret because of the wicked;
do not be envious of wrongdoers,
2 for they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.
It seems a good time for some Anglican Chant, so here is Psalm 37:1-10. The Coverdale translation (the version they are singing) is under the spoiler.
