I did a 50 mile bike ride with 13,000 of my closest buddies, from Rosarito to Ensenada, Mexico, back in '86. Great fun, hotel room stacked high with bicycles. :batting:

I got shaken down by the Federales on the highway between Rosarito and Ensenada. They pulled me over, said I ran a non-existent stop sign. Wanted $200. I don’t have that much. How much do you have? I have $80. OK, $80 then.

I was with an old boyfriend and another couple. On the way back to the US, the wife of the other couple said if we each put in $20, then Maybenaut won’t have to pay the whole thing. Her husband said, why should we have to pay? We’re not the ones who ran the stop sign.

The new me would have tossed his ass out of the car and let him walk back to San Diego.

Here we go again — Wichita Falls imposes water restrictions

https://www.timesrecordnews.com/story/n ... 776297007/
The combined water levels of lakes Arrowhead and Kickapoo fell below 65 percent on Monday, meaning Wichita Falls water customers are under water usage restrictions once again.

The drop in the lakes automatically triggered a Stage 1 Drought Watch, which primarily affects outdoor watering for residents.

It means that:

Even numbered addresses can only water on Monday and Thursday.
Odd numbered addresses can only water on Tuesday and Friday.
The allowed watering on the designated days are from midnight to 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. to midnight.
Hand-held hose, soaker and dripper irrigation are exempt from the above restrictions.

:snippity:

Wichita Falls city councilors lifted all drought restrictions in mid-July after plentiful rain in the spring. The area briefly emerged from a two year drought.

Hot temperatures and lack of rain has again placed Wichita County in an extreme drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The National Weather Service forecasts no rain for Wichita Falls for the next week with daytime highs in the 90s or 80s.

Because of rains earlier in the year, the city remains slightly ahead of the normal precipitation for this time of year.

We have limitations in watering here year-round, though they probably don't enforce anything in January. We cannot use automated sprinklers and there are some other limitations on regular ones. This is because our village water comes from the lake.

We have had very little rain the last couple of months but most folks just let their lawns go.

Home now. Weather was great until the last hour yesterday when heavy rain hit. We had to pull off the road until it let up a bit.

Still raining here. That should end the drought.

Wow! That's a cool coincidence.

I have seen that ad before, and marveled at the fashions. I had a polyester 3-piece tan suit made by Levi's in the late 1970s but nothing quite as out there as the threads in this ad.

https://www.texomashomepage.com/news/bo ... er-bridge/
The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to stay away from the Wichita River bridge on FM 369 after finding a possible bomb.

According to Sheriff Duke, deputies responded to a call around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, and found what appeared to be a pipe bomb near the Wichita River Bridge.

Fort Sill in Oklahoma sent their bomb technicians after receiving drone pictures from WCSO.

Wichita County sheriff: 'The bomb was real'

https://www.timesrecordnews.com/story/n ... 840413007/
Sheriff David Duke said a passerby spotted the device on the bank off the Wichita River at the bridge over FM Road 369 shortly after 2 p.m.

Duke and deputies used a drone to examine the device from a distance. Duke said it looked real to him based on experiences he has had with explosive devices.

He called in the bomb squad from Fort Sill and closed off the area near the bridge for safety precautions. Wichita West volunteer firefighters were on hand as a precaution and to help with traffic control.

Duke said the bomb the squad arrived after 5 p.m. and used X-ray to determine the bomb was real. A Wichita Falls police officer associated with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives safely secured the device for transport to the ATF office in Dallas.

The sheriff said sounds of an explosion had been heard in the nearby Wrangler’s Retreat area on Saturday. He said it’s possible someone driving over the bridge decided to just toss the device, which turned out to be a pipe bomb that could be activated by a remote control.
