I've just put The Quiet Damage : Qanon and the Destruction of the American Family by Jesselyn Cook on hold at my library. It comes out next week. From my library's site:
The riveting story of QAnon's devastating impact on the American family, grappling with the seductive allure of disinformation, the trauma it causes, and how we might set ourselves free.
The QAnon conspiracy theories--which posit that a nefarious cabal of elites is secretly ruling our society, poisoning our bodies, and harming our children--have come to represent the peculiar mania driven by social media disinformation campaigns and its dire consequences on our politics. But what's often overlooked is the raw destructive power these theories have on the American family. In an age in which partisanship has created deep divides within the home--between parents and children, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives--the extreme belief structure of QAnon widens those divides into seemingly insurmountable chasms, leaving people lost, confused, and broken. With studies showing that nearly 19% of Americans believe in QAnon-related theories, the true toll of QAnon on our mental and social health is as vast as it is urgent to confront.
In The Quiet Damage, celebrated reporter Jesselyn Cook unfolds the heartbreaking stories of five representative families from couples young and old to rural white parents to urban Black siblings, to show how QAnon shattered bonds once believed unbreakable. Cook paints a portrait of American suffering, of the vulnerabilities that have left people susceptible to outrageous theories promising order and control in a world where both are increasingly in short supply. Charting the arc of each believer's path from their first intersection with QAnon to the depths of their cultish conviction in the theory's promise, to--in some fortunate cases--their rejection of conspiracy thinking and the mending of broken bonds, Cook offers a fascinating look into the psychology of how and why ordinary people come to believe the unbelievable. Her reporting lays bare how we have been taken hostage by grifters who profit from a network built on false hope--and how we might eventually release our loved ones, and ourselves, from their grasp.
At once a riveting account of the American family in crisis and a sociological exploration of the hidden costs of our global crisis of disinformation, The Quiet Damage is profound, brilliantly researched, and beautifully written.

Trump nephew reveals Uncle Donald’s racist outburst in new book
Exclusive: Fred C Trump III shares story of presidential nominee using N-word and describes Trump’s attitude on race
Martin Pengelly in Washington
Wed 24 Jul 2024 08.00 CEST
In a new book, Donald Trump’s nephew recalls the future US president, at the start of his New York real estate career, surveying damage to a beloved car and furiously using the N-word.
The shocking scene appears in All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way by Fred C Trump III, which will be published in the US next Tuesday. The Guardian obtained a copy.
“‘Niggers,’ I recall him saying disgustedly. ‘Look what the niggers did,’” Fred Trump writes, describing his uncle’s racist outburst.
In the midst of a tumultuous election, in which Trump faces Kamala Harris, the first woman of color to be vice-president, the book may prove explosive.
Allegations of racism have followed Trump through his life in business and politics.
Rumours persist that tape exists of Trump using the N-word during his time on The Apprentice, the hit NBC TV show that propelled him towards politics, though none have emerged. Omarosa Manigault, a Black contestant, has said she has heard such a tape. Trump denies it.
Since winning the Republican nomination for president in 2016, through four years in the White House and in his third presidential campaign, Trump has repeatedly used racist language and has faced accusations of race-baiting. He has vehemently denied all such accusations.
Nonetheless, Fred C Trump III describes in detail a stunning moment he says happened in the early 1970s at the house of his grandparents, Donald Trump’s parents, in Queens, New York.
It was “just a normal afternoon for preteen me”, Trump III writes, but then his uncle arrived.
“Donald was pissed,” Trump III writes. “Boy, was he pissed.”
Trump says his uncle showed him his “cotillon white Cadillac Eldorado convertible”. In its retractable canvas top, “there was a giant gash, at least two feet long [and] another, shorter gash next to it”.
“‘Niggers,’ I recall him saying disgustedly. ‘Look at what the niggers did.’
“‘I knew that was a bad word.’”

this surprises me not. He called for the execution of The Exonerated 5, and evenn though they were all exonerated, he still says they're guilty because "they confessed"

Ahh, that explains it. I checked on Libby and they had no copies available. I’ll check again next week.
I was able to read the preview, the first couple of chapters.

‘Apprentice’ Producers Recall Particular Set ‘Stench’ They Just Couldn’t Shake Off
It “followed them like an invisible cloud,” per a new book from New York Times reporters Russ Buettner and Susanne Craig.

The potential set for “The Apprentice” just didn’t pass the smell test.
That’s according to producers on Donald Trump’s business reality show who have detailed the stale scent they encountered when they first checked out the 26th floor of Trump Tower in 2003, amid pre-production of the program.
“The first thing they noticed was the stench, a musty carpet odor that followed them like an invisible cloud,” New York Times reporters Russ Buettner and Susanne Craig wrote in their new book “Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success.” The Times published an adapted excerpt on Saturday.
There were also “scores of chips in the finish of the wooden desks and credenzas” and “the décor felt long out of date, making the space seem like a time capsule from when Donald J. Trump opened the building early in his first rise to fame,” per the Times’ journalists.
“When you go into the office and you’re hearing ‘billionaire,’ even ‘recovering billionaire,’ you don’t expect to see chipped furniture, you don’t expect to smell carpet that needs to be refreshed in the worst, worst way,” said Bill Pruitt, one of the said producers. “The whole thing was absurd to all of us,” said fellow producer Alan Blum, per the Times article.
Mark Burnett, who created the show, ended up paying Trump (whose own body odor has been described by former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) as “armpits, ketchup, makeup and a little butt”) almost half a million dollars per year for space on the fourth floor which he had revamped as a fake boardroom and the contestants’ apartments, per the book.
“Our job was to make him look legitimate, to make him look like there was something behind it,” said another producer, Jonathon Braun, “even though we pretty much all knew that there wasn’t.”

I'm enjoying it so far, only about 100 pages in and most of it has been about the old man and his skeevy business deals and cheating. A few bits about tfg's stint at the military school, seems he started young at his scams and lies.
I don't know much about Craig's co-author, but I always enjoy her reporting with Nicole Wallace and others on MSNBC. Didn't mind popping $$ to support her efforts
I do have the Kindle version, so highlighting and copy/paste to a thread are easy-peasy. If there's any interest here, I can start a thread and share some there, and those not interested in getting spammed can stay away. Just let me know.

This one does seem to have some interesting background. I understand you have to read a good bit into it before getting to the "presidency."
