Her attorney seems terrible - that is what you get when you hire a personal injury attorney for a criminal case I guess. She used to have a real criminal defense attorney but switched to this buffoon for some reason unknown to me.

Recall that in the government's motion in limine, the court granted the restriction preventing her from complaining about the potential sentence that a patriotic grandmother was facing in order to sway the jury. So it sure sounds like she way planning to try to minimize her sentence if convicted but that avenue has been closed off.

These people are like people with Oppositional Defiant Disorder -- they fight even when walking away would be better for them. They can't stop fighting.

After all, the whole purpose of the cult is to lose and then claim that being a victim is really a better form of winning than actually being acquitted.

Rats. I had some open time. Hard to believe that they expect the trial to last 2 weeks or so? I know there's a long witness list.

I don't really think she'd plead out, because then she couldn't blame the deep state for targeting her unjustly, blah, blah, blah.

It is, though not a probability, still a possibility. The above in your post only forecloses her talking about a penalty to the jury. There will be a jury instruction that they are not to be concerned with any penalty.

Does this case involve jail time? She might plead out in that case, otherwise if it's just money, then she'll go to trial and take her chances.

I followed this FB page years ago after the refuge mess, but it seems she/he is following the trial. Can't speak how accurate the posts are, but entertaining to me

In his opening statement, prosecutor Alexander Gottfried said Fiore “took advantage of those officers’ memories for her personal gain.”
Prosecutors will show Fiore spent the funds she received on rent, her daughter’s wedding, plastic surgery and other items, and then she tried to conceal her fraud, he said.

“None of the money she raised, not one cent, was spent on a memorial for Officer Beck,” he said.

On the defense side:

Fiore’s attorney, Michael Sanft, asked the jury to reserve judgment until the end of the trial and criticized the way the FBI investigated Fiore.
The FBI is “supposed to search for the truth,’ he said, but failed to do so.

The FBI did “sloppy work,” Sanft alleged. He said Fiore and her daughter had been sloppy in their accounting, too, and he described their actions as “sloppy, but not criminal.”

Okay folks. If you remember back in January of 2021, the FBI raided Fiore's private home and removed several boxes of evidence. Here we are nearly four years later. I doubt the FBI was sloppy in their investigation. Stay tuned.
