AP: Secretaries of state urge Elon Musk to fix AI chatbot spreading election misinformation on X:
This explains why Grok results are being cited more often.Five secretaries of state are urging Elon Musk to fix an AI chatbot on the social media platform X, saying in a letter sent Monday that it has spread election misinformation.
The top election officials from Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Washington told Musk that X’s AI chatbot, Grok, produced false information about state ballot deadlines shortly after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
While Grok is available only to subscribers to the premium versions of X, the misinformation was shared across multiple social media platforms and reached millions of people, according to the letter. The bogus ballot deadline information from the chatbot also referenced Alabama, Indiana, Ohio and Texas, although their secretaries of state did not sign the letter. Grok continued to repeat the false information for 10 days before it was corrected, the secretaries said.

It is also, if not by design, at least by side effect. ML i good at giving you the answer you want, which has made it really popular with people who want plausible deniability. "it isn't my fault, the machine I trained to do my bidding said it!'

X owner deletes post sharing faked Telegraph article that claimed convicted rioters would be sent to detention camps
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ ... ands-camps
Elon Musk shared a fake Telegraph article claiming Keir Starmer was considering sending far-right rioters to “emergency detainment camps” in the Falklands.
Musk deleted his post after about 30 minutes but a screenshot captured by Politics.co.uk suggests it had garnered nearly two million views before it was deleted.
In it, Musk shared the image posted by the co-leader of the far-right group Britain First, Ashlea Simon, which she captioned with, “we’re all being deported to the Falklands”.
The fake piece, purportedly written by a senior news reporter for the Telegraph and mocked up in the newspaper’s style, said camps in the Falklands “would be used to detain prisoners from the ongoing riots as the British prison system is already at capacity”.

A week in tweets: Elon Musk doesn’t stop posting but what is he saying?
There is method to the apparent madness of the tycoon’s prolific 24-hour output
Alex Hern UK technology editor

Elon Musk doesn’t stop tweeting. Over just seven days last week, he made nearly 650 posts to the social network he bought in November 2022 and half-heartedly rebranded as X. In addition, he spent nearly three hours battling through technical problems he would later attribute to an unproved hacking attack in order to host a “conversation” with Donald Trump, as well as livestreaming himself playing a couple of hours of Blizzard’s swords-and-sorcery game Diablo IV.
The sheer volume of his content would be impressive enough on its own, but even as someone so addicted to posting that he spent more than the budget of the Manhattan project to buy the site, Musk’s consistency is alarming.
Over the course of the week of tweets analysed by the Guardian, there was one 90-minute period – between 3.00 and 4.29am local time – when he never posted. Every other half-hour period, night or day, he sent at least one tweet. He posted at 4.41am on a Saturday morning, at 2.30am on a Wednesday night, and at 11pm six days out of seven.
In that week, Musk’s longest continuous stretch without tweeting – with a different person, it might be safe to call this “bed time” – was just seven and a half hours, with a lie-in until 8.10am after a late-night posting session. His shortest overnight break, on Saturday night, saw him logging off after retweeting a meme comparing London’s Metropolitan police force to the Nazi SS, before bounding back online four and a half hours later to retweet a crypto influencer complaining about jail terms for Britons attending protests.

TESLA and Elon Musk - anything not elsewhere
Another day, another example of the avalanche of shit that follows Elon Musk everywhere. You'd never see this from a high-quality operation. Musk's response won't be to fix it, just to deny it and blame the press.
Tesla Can’t Even Make Full-Self Driving Work In A Tunnel It Built
Tesla's cars still can't fully self-drive through an empty, pre-planned tunnel
Tesla, the company that CEO Elon Musk claims will “solve autonomy,” has a problem: It turns out autonomy is hard. The company is totally definitely introducing a fully autonomous robotaxi this year, for realsies, yet it can’t even figure out how to make its cars self-drive through the Vegas Loop — a tunnel Musk himself had built.
The Vegas Loop was introduced three years ago, with the intent of getting around all that pesky Las Vegas traffic, and has been marginally effective in that goal. It’s faster than walking, at least. Now, the company is looking to expand its domain beneath the Vegas streets, and claims that some level of autonomy is on the horizon before 2025 — but not, crucially, full self-driving. From the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
The plan is to begin the early stages of autonomous driving within the system by the Tesla vehicles that are utilized in the system, Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority told the Review-Journal earlier this month.
“Hopefully this will get started just lightly, using a driver assistance tool by the end of this year,” Hill said.
There is still no timeline associated with when full autonomy will be implemented in the system, as the Boring Co. is in the process of expanding the tunneling of the Vegas Loop outward from the Las Vegas Convention Center loop.
This is a tunnel entirely under Musk’s control, built exclusively for Tesla vehicles to use, yet the company’s flagship software can’t handle it. No traffic, no pedestrians, no intersections, not even any real turns, yet it’s apparently still too much for FSD.
How can the software be ready for wide release as a subscription service, for drivers whose commutes do involve uncontrolled outside factors, if it can’t even handle a tunnel — the most controllable situation imaginable? Tesla has already backed off the claim that its older cars are FSD-ready, but it’s now tough to argue that even its current cars can really drive themselves. If Tesla doesn’t trust this software on a closed course, why should I trust it on the street?

Wonder how much it will cost to insure this self-propelled turdmobile a couple years from now when the number of losses from really bizarre reasons continues to mount.
It'll also be fun to see what happens to resale values for the IncelCamino. A lot of people who have overleveraged themselves to get one are going to be massively under water on the value of the car if they try to sell it in the first half of their ludicrously expensive long-term car loans. (A $100k cybertruck on a 6 year loan at 9% with 10% down is about $1,650 a month).

Is it? Twitter's usage and influence has dropped through the floor. I don't think the vast and rich Brazilian user base will make much difference.

Doesn't sound impressive, although "at least once a month" could mean once, or 500. It'd be interesting to compare to Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.Market research group Emarketer says some 40 million Brazilians, roughly one-fifth of the population, access X at least once per month.

Also "access Twitter" could mean seeing a twitter post on a forum similar to this one.
