Congratulations on your move! I really would love to leave this area after mom passes, but I am afraid of having to find a new doctor. I have traveled through Albuquerque and spent a few days there and loved it! I really loved that I could breathe through my nostrils in the southwest, no allergies at all. But I agree, the best part of getting out of Florida is the escape from DeSantis and the rest of the MAGAts infecting these parts.

As my sweetie neared retirement, I read more articles about things you should and should not do right after retiring. I thought one of the best suggestions was to rent for a period of time in an area you're thinking of moving to. How many people have sold their houses, moved, then regretted it? If you rent for a while, you get a feel for an area and you can check out the medical situation. Just something, RVInit, you might want to consider.RVInit wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 9:03 pm Congratulations on your move! About the renting thing, a friend of mine suggested I rent an Airbnb by the month instead of an apartment. It's actually cheaper considering all utilities included, and no leaseRVInit wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 3:21 amGreat pointMN-Skeptic wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 11:07 pmAs my sweetie neared retirement, I read more articles about things you should and should not do right after retiring. Also, with airbnb you could spend a month or two in different neighborhoods while you’re trying to decide which one is the best fit for you.

Took my first (of many to come) hikes, or was it rock climb, through the Petroglyph National Monument just up the street from my house. Going up wasn't a problem but coming back down was an issue for this unaccompanied mono-vision woman with zero depth perception. The signs clearly stated no one was to climb on the rocks but nothing said I couldn't sit on my butt and scoot back down.
The vast majority of these were done by the Pueblos and other native cultures dating back almost a millennium. They were chiseled out of the volcanic rock. (Did I mention I live by three volcanoes?)
Many of the glyphs's meanings have been lost to time so I've included my own twisted impressions. Feel free to correct me or add your own.

I knew the trail wasn't very long. I just didn't realize it went almost straight up.May the bridges I burn light my way.

That last one is a map of where the guy left his phone and car keys. Clearly the Gemini AI avatar at bottom left, near the bushes.
Glad I could help.

This glyph is not believed to be done by the Pueblo but the Spanish in the 1700s. It's is believed to be a Christian cross. May the bridges I burn light my way.

Wow. It looks great there. I'd hike that too.

Very cool place. I have my own photos, but never captioned them!

Sounds like fun, you and the landscape look great. It's been a few decades, but I seem to recall some scenic drive around the Sandia Mountains (I think), that had a bunch of old timey mining towns and stuff with lots of good arts and craft shopping.

You might want to look into trekking poles. Our property is all steep hills and I don’t need the poles to climb up, but they sure help coming down. My poles are adjustable, so you make then short for the climb up and long for the climb down. These are the ones I have.

I concur. They are a great help, particularly on rough terrain.
